Hillary McGinnis Sr.

1951 - 2017

Hillary McGinnis Sr. entered into rest on Sunday, June 25, 2017. He was born to Harry and Agnes McGinnis Sr. in New Orleans, LA. He attended Walter L. Cohen High School. It was there he met and later married his high school sweetheart Rita McGinnis on August 15, 1969. Their union bore four children. Hillary was a musician, who sang and played the bass guitar. In 1970, he recorded and released songs "Weak As You Want To Be" and "I'm Not Gonna Hurt You No More" with the band The Electrostats. He later recorded "Tears of Joy" with band mate and friend Will Burnett. Also, for several years he enjoyed DJing at local bars, parties, weddings, etc. Hillary was great with his hands. Because of this, he was a self-made mechanic, electrician, plumber, a well-rounded maintenance man. In 1994, Hillary, along with his wife, started a business named "McGinnis Cleaning Services". All of which he took great pride in. Hillary owned and operated McGinnis Cleaning until he was no longer able to work due to illness. He leaves to cherish his fond memories two sons: Hillary McGinnis Jr. (Tangee), Brian McGinnis (Lakeisha), two daughters, Kina Oneal (Tony), Lisa Young (Bennie Jr.). He will be greatly missed by eight grandchildren: Javell, Kanethia, LaShondra, Lareesa, Jennifer, Briana, Keith, Brent, two great-grandchildren: Ja'Hanna, Kayden, four sisters: Doretha James (Alfred), Doris George, Debra Brown, Rosemary Bass, three brothers: Frank Shaw (Lona), James Shaw, Harold McGinnis (Lillian), devoted friends: Gregory (Simon) Carter, Paul Clay, Rev. Kevin Jackson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends. Hillary was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Agnes McGinnis Sr., his daughter Miranda McGinnis, two sisters: Yvonne Burton, Viola Melvin, two brothers: Harry McGinnis Jr. and Albert McGinnis. Relatives and Friends of the family are all invited to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11:00am at Majestic Mortuary 1833 Oretha C.
