My deepest condolences are extended to the family. Lea/ Black was a known and respected barber in the Lower ninth ward for many years. He was loyal and kind to his customers as well...I remember when my father was ill and couldn“t physically come to the shop how he came to the house and cut his hair; unfortunately, when he passed away "Lee" gave him his last hair cut. Rest well our friend, your kindness will always be well remembered!

I knew Hilton, or "Lee," as I usually called him, most of his life. We grew up in the Lower 9, attended Macarty School, where he was known as "George's little brother." He was my barber for more than 50 years. He gave my son his first haircut. For the past few years, my wife and I looked forward to his serving us every other Thursday. Even after he relocated uptown following Hurricane Katrina, many customers from the old neighborhood followed him. He had a fantastic memory and was a source of information of old friends.
I often said that the producers of the movie, "Barbershop" must have visited his shop because there were so many similarities and character scenes that I observed there. He was a constant for more than 60 years working with more than a dozen other barbers. He will be sorely missed by many loved ones and friends.
My wife, Inez, and son, Raphael Martin, send our deep condolences to his daughters, grandchildren and other family members, friends and neighbors.
