Howard "Police" Bryant Sr

Howard "Police" Bryant, Sr, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2022. He was born on September 12, 1931, in Colombia, Louisiana to the late Gealy and Ella Payne Bryant. He was the ninth of nine children and was preceded in death by all eight of his siblings: sisters Mary Bell Bryant Cole, Bessie Mae Bryant Chambers, Selena Bryant Buckner, Creola Bryant Porter-Robinson, Marie Bryant, and Roberta Bryant Jackson; brothers Admiral Bryant and Tilton Bryant. Howard, Sr was educated in the school system of Caldwell Parish where he graduated from Union Central High School. He worked at Louisiana Central Lumber from 1948 to 1951. He was drafted into the Army in 1951 to serve in the Korean War. He was assigned to the 93rd Engineering Float Brigade as an auto mechanic. He was employed for 30 years as a longshoreman with the International Longshoremen's Association Local #3000 before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Rhinestone Social and Pleasure Club. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Donnie and Michael Bryant, a devoted friend, Victoria Gaines, three grandchildren, Marc (Sawako), Dede, Kalina Bryant, and four great grandchildren, Ace, Isaiah, Leon, and Keisha Bryant. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Howard, Sr. was preceded in death by his loving wife, Catherine Tate Bryant and his middle son, Howard, Jr. (Debra). Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, January 29, 2022, for 1:30 p.m. at The Boyd Family Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Hwy., New Orleans, LA 70126.
