Jacques Cassatt Obituary

Jacques Graf Cassatt passed away on January 6th at this home. Cassatt is survived by his loving brother Anthony Drexel Cassatt as well as his uncle Robert Kelso Cassatt, his aunt Minnie Cassatt and his cousins Mr. and Mrs. Edward Keady. Jacques was born on February 8th, 1967 in Wineka, Illinois. He lived in Illinois and Pennsylvania, but New Orleans was certainly his home. Having arrived to New Orleans in 1985, Jacques attended Tulane University before graduating high with Honors from Purdue University in1991. Jacques returned to New Orleans to attend Loyola University's School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate. He served as a volunteer at the Tulane Law Clinic as well as having been a member of Loyola's Moot Court. In addition to his legal career, Jacques was also Chairman of Cassatt Brothers & Company LLC, a property management and development company. Jacques' passions were his friends, music, and somewhat questionable dancing. He had an infectious smile and an enormous heart. He will be missed by many, who will celebrate his life on Tuesday, January 11th at Trinity Episcopal Church on Jackson Avenue. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and a memorial service will be held at noon. A repast will be held at The Maple Leaf on Oak Street after the ceremony.

I couldn't write this on the 8th, because I was on the krewe of Jacques float, singing "happy birthday"...

Rest peacefully, my brother. There are many who light up at the mere mention of your name... your image makes us laugh and think good thoughts. Unfortunately for us, your work is done here. Keep shining on.

I, for one, continue walking with you by my side...

Your loving brother,

Drew

Quito was always so good to me. I can not even guess how many Dead shows he brought me safely home from. He also brought me into a wide circle of friends that I think of fondly to this day. Always smiling and full of love...always a gentleman and a friend. Friends, it is good to see your names on this page I wish I could see you all now. Peace and Love Tiffany

If you could judge a mans life by the quality of those who called him friend, Jacques was a giant. The world will be a lesser place without you. If there is a heaven. I hope you're shooting tubes with Jerry right now! We'll miss you!

Even in death, Jacques still brings people together. New friends, it is good to meet you and old acquaintances, it is good to see your names.

Thanks for touching our lives, Jacques.

Jock and A.J. spotted me across the bar at McCaw's in my tie dye and made a bee line for me. They figured if any one could save them in West Lafayette, it would be someone like me. I invited them into my "family" as well as they into theirs. We became brothers instantly, and I miss them dearly. I will post a photo from the last time I saw Jocko at the Las Vegas shows and also plan to have a whole set of photos from Purdue in '89/90 and the '90 spring tour for anyone who wants to contact me. One is especially heart felt of them asleep like babies in my back seat, head to head, on the way to the Louisville show...

I didn't arrive at Avon until Junior year, and Jacques helped this new kid feel welcome in Elephant Dormitory in the fall of 1983. He and my roommate, Martin Morey, were close friends. Without their help, my first year at Avon would not have gone nearly as well. I expect Jacques will be there again to make each of us feel welcome when it is our time.

Jacque was one of the first people I met at AOF my freshmen year and for the next four years our friendship grew. I can honestly say he is one of kind. He will be missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jacques attended secondary school at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut. He was one of the leaders of his class; an honors student, a varsity football and lacrosse player, a student council member, and a member of the spirit club. Jacques' great spirit will always be his legacy at Avon Old Farms and he will be missed by his classmates and faculty. On Sunday morning, May 8, 2005, on Alumni Weekend, Jacques will be remembered at our memorial service in our chapel. This is Jacques' 20th reunion.

So glad to be able to share in your sendoff. Your body may have left us, but your insatiable spirit and love for life will always live on. We miss you but know you are somewhere up high and dancing. Keep an eye on Tony from where you are - we'll do the same here. Love you brother.

Keep on dancin' through to daylight.

Greet the morning air with song.

No one's noticed, but the band's all packed and gone.

Was it ever here at all?

But they keep on dancing.

C'mon, children. C'mon, children,

Come on clap your hands.

Our thoughts, prayers and love for you and your family.
