I knew wonderful Jake throughout the 1970s and beyond. Back then, I saw him everyday. We were part of a small community around the 400 block of Barracks Street where his shop was. We were involved with neighborhood events in which Jake enthusiastically participated. One was an art show and competition on the fence of the U.S. Mint before is was restored. Over 10,000 came to see the exhibit!!! Another was the formation of the Lower Quarter Crime Watch. I believe it might have been the first of its kind in the city. Jake was always up for a challenge!! I still have a small stool he gifted me. I loved Jake and considered him a good friend. He was kind to everyone and a well-known figure in the glorious French Quarter at that time My heart goes out to his family and friends.
