Idk what to say james. You were my best friend in High School and long after that. We had so many fun times together. When you were away for basic, i would get so excited to see one of your letters waiting in the mail for me. Im truly heart broken and im so sorry for your suffering. I love you James. This world wont be the same without that beautiful smile.

You were the kindest, most loving, and supportive person who came into my life. You were always my shoulder when the bad would consume me. With that, you taught me how to live and how to love, unconditionally, with every ounce of my being. I thank you for that, and I will thank you everyday for all of that. My favorite memory is when I was complaining how I never knew how to braid my hair, and you said "I know how to braid hair, let me show you", and ever since that day, my hair goes up in a braid. It was always the little things with you. Rest easy, love you always.

You were one of the best, brother. Rest in power. I'll use a line from one of your favorite songs, "I'll see you when the sun sets!"

You were always such a pleasure to be around. Just an all around positive personality. Not sure what happened, but regardless you'll be missed! Rest easy, man.

It is the Airman
In Memorial Honor of Sgt James D. Eukel, Louisiana National Guard
It's the AIRMAN,
not the pastor/preacher, who has given us freedom of religion and worship.
It's the AIRMAN,
not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It's the AIRMAN,
not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It's the AIRMAN,
not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble and demonstrate.
It's the AIRMAN,
not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It's the AIRMAN,
not the politician, who has given us the right to vote, ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It's the AIRMAN,
who salutes the Flag, who serves beneath the Flag and whose coffin is draped by the Flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.
ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM.

I was touched and inspired by this beautiful tribute to Sgt. Eukel.
I occasionally read notices about people that I have not known, but Sgt. Eukel would have been someone I would have liked to have made acquaintance.
His relatives must be very special people!
God bless you all, and may he continue to inspire and touch lives forever.
David Cary.

James was an extraordinary young man and I feel so privileged to have been a part of his life. His ability to overcome adversity time and again to become the successful military man he was showed the world that he was indeed a force to be reckoned with. My heart is broken for the family he left behind but although his physical presence will be missed I firmly believe his spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all of us who were lucky enough to know him. Rest easy James. Your work here is done.
