James Narvaez Obituary

NARVAEZ James Frank Narvaez, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2007, after a long battle against cancer. James was born July 6, 1949 in Louisiana. At age 17 he joined the army and fought in Vietnam. After he was honorably discharged, he moved to New Orleans, LA and went to work for Amtrak Railroad as a machinist. In the year 2001 his doctor informed him he had colon cancer, and he retired from Amtrak after many years of dedicated of service. During the hurricane storm Katrina he was unwilling to leave his home in Pearlington, Ms. He rode the storm out in his boat, collecting other people along the way. Due to his actions, they and others like them survived the storm. He has touched many lives, and he has left a lasting impression on everyone that had encountered him. He is survived by his two children: Nicole and Nicholas Narvaez; grandson, Destin Mc Nutt; mother and stepfather, Shirley and Kenneth Berthelot; father, Albert Narvaez; brothers: Kenny (deceased), Calvin, and Craig Bertholot, and Albert Narvaez, Jr.; sisters: Jonie Terefe, Nita Narvaez-Hollingsworth, and Gail Cassard; godchild, Gracie Virgina Berthelot. A Memorial Service will be held during St. Joseph Catholic Church Mass on Sunday, April 1, 2007 in Pearlington, Ms. at 10:30 A.M.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. James fought a long hard battle. Now he is at peace. He will be missed by all the lives he touched. He was a great dad, son, brother and friend.
