James Remich Obituary

REMICH Brother James Joseph (Joe) Remich, S.J., a member of the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus, died at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012, at Ignatius Residence in New Orleans. He was 92 years of age, had been a Jesuit for 52 years and a formed brother in the order for 41 years. Funeral Masses for Brother Remich will be celebrated at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, at Ignatius Residence in New Orleans and at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 24, in St. Joseph Chapel at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. Burial will follow in the Jesuit Cemetery on the Spring Hill campus. Brother Remich was born on May 30, 1919, in Pensacola, FL. He joined the U.S. Army in 1941, serving until 1945. He was assigned to posts in the South Pacific between 1942 and 1945. He began his Jesuit training in 1959 at St. Charles College in Grand Coteau, LA, taking first vows on January 15, 1962. He pronounced final vows on February 2, 1971, in New Orleans. Brother Remich worked in the New Orleans Province Office as assistant treasurer from 1963 to 1972, and then as treasurer from 1972 until 1990. From 1990 to 2004 he was the treasurer for the Jesuit Seminary and Mission Bureau. In 2004 he was missioned to Ignatius Residence to pray for the Church and Society. Those who lived and worked with Brother Remich saw in him a model of faithful service and dedication to religious life. He was preceded in death by his parents, James J. and Margaret McHugh Remich and his sister, Mrs. Rose Mary Briggs. He is survived by his brother, J. Patrick Remich, of Pensacola, FL.

Brother Remich you were and always will be a part of our family, you were a Furgason to all of us.
You are now in eternal peace and no more pain.
I pray that you are with Matthew and are both smiling down on all of your loved ones.
