Joann K. Groll
Canadian Lakes, Michigan
August 17, 1951 - October 18, 2022
Joann Kay Groll, after valiant perseverance with Alzheimer's, slipped into eternity on October 18, 2022. Joann endured the disease with virtue, and the steadfast care by family exemplifies how the power of love can triumph in the midst of suffering as she rests in the Lord.
Born on August 17, 1951 to Bert and Dorothy (Flanagan) Forrest in Owosso, Joann graduated Morrice High School and eventually made her way to the MSU police records department. There she met her groom, George, who could not resist her kind and caring nature or her delicious cooking. Following her retirement from the East Lansing Police department, Joann never slowed down, using her time and talents making homemade candies, cakes, and the family favorite Christmas cookies.
Joann and George found their way to Canadian Lakes where she became an active member of New Hope United Methodist Church, using her culinary talents working the Wednesday night suppers and her joyful nature as a Sunshine Lady. She devoted her life to others and when she couldn't help in person, she shared what she had with charities who were in need.
When she wasn't in the kitchen, Joann could be found passing the time watching QVC or cheering on anything MSU was involved in, particularly her favorite sports of Hockey and Basketball. Joann's devout spirit will be greatly missed by her family.
Left to carry on her memory of a life well lived are husband, George; children, Kelly, Jean (Bartt), Jeff (Amanda); Grandchildren, Alex (Leah), Zachary (Diyahna), Annalise; Sister, Linda; two Nephews and three Great-granddaughters.
Per her wishes and in line with her giving nature, Joann will join the MSU anatomical donation program, so that even in death, she can help others. A memorial service in her honor will be held Tuesday, October 25th, at 11:00 am, at New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta with Pastor Wayne McKenney officiating. Visitation will take place the evening before at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Remus, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm, and the morning of the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
