Janice Lewis Obituary

Janice LeCron Lewis, age 84, passed away on July 20th, 2021, closely followed by her beloved husband of 53 years, Herbert Leroy Lewis, just two days later. She was born on April 6th, 1937 in New Orleans to the late Michael LeCron and Bernadine LeCron in New Orleans and was a graduate of F.T. Nicholls High School. She attended the University of New Orleans and earned a degree with Soulé Business College. She worked as an accountant and served as the treasurer of the board of directors at Southport, Inc. She was a faithful member of Atonement Lutheran Church. Jan enjoyed planning and hosting family gatherings with her husband, Leroy. She was gifted at sewing and provided her family with baby clothes, holiday costumes, theatrical costumes, and dresses for special occasions. She was also an avid reader and enthusiastic shopper. Jan made a positive difference in every life she touched. She was a mentor and role model to many of the women she shared her career with; she knew how to listen when someone needed an ear and always found a way to make someone leave every conversation with a smile. She was always so proud of her family and their accomplishments, boasting that they made her "bust [her] buttons!" She is preceded in death by: her daughter, Lita Louise Lewis; her sister, Vida Laporte; her brothers, Michael Robert LeCron, Jr. and John David LeCron; and her granddaughter, Tamara Brien. She was joined in heaven almost immediately by her loving husband, Herbert Leroy Lewis. She is survived by: her daughters, Laura Melohn (Jim), Karen Rogan (Ed), and Dawn Mullen; her sons, Michael Lewis (Mary) and Alan Lewis (Naomi); her sister, Berna Schambach (Ed); her grandchildren, Christopher Aucoin-Melohn (Kyle), Sarah Benitez, Melissa Brien-Nuccio, Amanda Brien-Melvin (Shandon), Krista Brien, Gregory Lewis (Lucy), Brian Lewis (Crystal), Michael Lewis (Alexis), Autumn Mullen, Le Anne Castleman (Darren), and Crystal Lewis; and her great-grandchildren, Juan Carlos, Laila, Luke, Jake, Evie, Colette, Maris, Genevieve, Isaac, Nathaniel, Imelda, Camillus, Ronan, Aimee, Michael, Sebastian, Alexander, Matthew, Michael, Hailey, Viviana, Raphael, Leo, Canyonn, Ryan, Macy, and Drew. The family would like to give their special thanks to Shannon Delatte, RN from St. Michael's Hospice for her wonderful at-home care. They would also like to thank Ashton Manor and Haydel Hospice for their supportive and caring staff. They extend their gratitude, also, to Sue Triche and Judy Perhay for the loving care of their fur baby, Maggie Marie. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, 70124 at 11:00 a.m. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by Rev. Timothy Schutt. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests donations in the Lewis name to Atonement Lutheran Church at 6500 Riverside Dr., Metairie, LA 70003. The family invites you to express your fond thoughts, memories and condolences online at www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
