I will always remember the youngster that came and hung out at the barber shop waiting for he and his brothers to get a hair cut. Jared had a beautiful, nurturing and caring spirit. My experience interacting with Jared was mainly at Milne Playground being a Milne Mom volunteering countless hours in the concession stand. Grief can be hard, and Tanya knows that real well, coming from the loss of her grandmother (Beverly's mother) in November and the loss of her son in December. Vernon's loss is just as great. It is said that the loss of a child is the hardest loss to bear. Though your loss is great, and you can't see this right now, just know that God doesn't give you more then He thinks you can bear. I am a classmate of Jared's from Lusher Middle School and was totally shocked and just lost when I heard the new of his passing. Jared was a great person, always laughing, smiling and was indeed the class clown but everyone loved him for that! I first time met Jared was at Milne playground practicing baseball with my son Sam which they became friends even into high school at St Aug. I was so saddened to learn of Jared's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you!
I vividly remember one quiet afternoon during dismissal---oh, so many years ago---when Jared was just sitting at his table singing 'My Girl'. I smiled and asked how he could know all the words to that song since it came out so long before he was even born. He was incredulous----he looked at me wide-eyed, and couldn't believe I would even THINK to ask him such a question. :-) !! He then very matter-of-factly replied, "Ms. Lenz, I know ALL of The Temptations' songs!" He then (unasked!) proceeded to sing a medley of their hits, and sure enough, he DID know them all!! :-)!! (We even sang some more of 'My Girl' together.) To this day, EVERY time I hear that song, the memory of that afternoon plays back in my head and I remember that sweet, charming 5-year old singing his heart out!
Jared was a bright, inquisitive, caring, and friendly little boy who never failed to stop by my classroom to smile, say hi, and sometimes chat long after I was no longer his teacher, but I will forever remember him as a 5 year old in that 'My Girl' moment.
I hope the memories of his love will give you the strength to carry on! May God be with you, Julian, Jacob, and Nakia!

I am so saddened and heartbroken for your loss! Jared was a GREAT kid with GREAT parents! He was curious,confident, funny, and charming---he made it VERY difficult to stay angry with him!!
