Jeanette Miller Obituary

Jeanette Castle Miller, age 87 was born on May 20, 1935, in Burnside, Louisiana peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, August 12, 2022. She attended Orleans Parish Public Schools. She graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School in 1953, the first graduating class. Jeanette entered Dillard University, where she was initiated into the Beta Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Dillard University in 1957. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and Cohen's Marching & Concert bands, playing the trombone. Jeanette was employed by Orleans Parish School Board and taught in the system for over 40 years at M.H. Nelson Elementary School. During her tenure, she also served as a Girl Scout Leader, PTA Treasurer and Ranking Teacher. She leaves to cherish precious memories, one devoted daughter, Michele L. Miller and son, Brian C. Miller (Elaine), five grandchildren, Walter Ashley (Brandi), Shawnika Ashley Henry (John), Aaliyah J. Muhammad, Krishna J. Muhammad (Tashawna) and Miriam A. Muhammad, eight great-grandchildren, one brother, Sam E. Castle, III, one sister, Claudette C. Dillon (Henry), nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her New Zion Church Family. She is preceded in death by her parents Sam Castle Jr. and Murrel Howard Castle, husband Curtis B. Miller, daughter, Jessica Lynne Miller, brother, Darryl Castle, sister Stella C. King (Ananias), and many other close relatives. Relatives, friends of the family, the New Zion Baptist Church Family, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, employees of Old Dominion Freight Line, and staff at Guardian Angel Hospice, and Central, Covenant and Guardian Home Health Care Agencies are invited to attend her Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at New Zion Baptist Church, 2319 Third Street, N. O., LA 70113 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Pastor C. S. Gordon Jr., Officiating. Interment: St Vincent DePaul Cemetery No.1 (Soniat). I offer my condolences to the Miller family. I called her Sister/Soror Miller. She was also my Sunday School teacher and friend. I so enjoyed our many conversations about teaching, Bible study and life in general. Her Christian light always shined brightly . Rest In Peace my friend.
