Joe Daley Obituary

After 62 years of marriage, our parents, Joseph and Carole Daley, died eight months apart. Carole (Carlson) Daley, originally of Peru, Illinois, died November 16, 2021, at the age of 84, and Joseph Daley, originally of Oglesby, Illinois, died July 24, 2022, at the age of 88. For Joe and Carole it was love at first sight. They met in Peru during high school and attended Colorado College together where Joe played football (under an athletic scholarship) and graduated with degrees in Civil Engineering and Chemistry, while Carole graduated with a degree in Botany. The Daley's lived in Chicago, Illinois after they married in 1959, then Montville, New Jersey, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and most recently for over 40 years in Destrehan, Louisiana. Joe served as a Civil and Chemical Engineer in many capacities over his long career and retired from Witco Chemical in 1996. Carole retired in June 2021 after a career as a tour guide spanning 40 years. Joe was a great outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. Carole immersed herself in Louisiana history and could be seen giving walking tours of the French Quarter, various New Orleans museums, and Destrehan Plantation. Joe and Carole leave behind their children, Christopher Daley-Watson and Jennifer Daley Johnson (and their spouses, Stephanie Daley-Watson and Glenn Johnson, respectively), and three grandchildren, Maxfield and Flannery Daley-Watson, and Victoria Johnson. Services for Joe and Carole were private with their close family present.

Joe is always on our mind during the year and when we enjoy the many gifts he gave our daughter Camryn as part of the Gem & Mineral Society. I can never look at a fluorescent item w/out thinking of him and how he was always excited sharing the information and details of these "rocks".

Met Joe and Carole in 1967 when I was transferred to Louisiana - Joe was Witco´s engineer overseeing the construction of a grassroots chemical plant in Taft - Over the years he ended up being my boss - And a good boss he was - Carole and my wife became friends - though over the years, our lives went in different directions, I considered Joe a friend and a great boss - I´m sorry to learn of his passing, but I have lots of nice memories of being with him and working for him...

We can't say enough about Joe and how much he meant to us. He and Camryn spent a lot of time together during the Rock Shows explaining fluorescent rocks and how it all worked. He always had a great story to tell about different types of rocks. His collection was never ending and it seemed and we always found something new when we visited him at home.

He was very generous too and Camryn was able to build her collection because of his gifts.

We will miss him a lot.

I worked for Joe for many years at the same company. He was a great boss and an even better person. I was sorry to hear of his death.

Joe was one of the gentlest and soft-spoken gentlemen that I have ever known. His love of the outdoors was immense and I shall never forget hunting and fishing with him across South Louisiana. Rest easy, my friend.

Joe and Carol were great friends and neighbors. I enjoyed playing golf with Joe as well as fishing with him. He was very generous with his time and talents and we helped each other numerous times. Joe gave my two grandchildren a tour of his mineral collection as well as a mineral rock of their own after each hot clued their selection to a small plastic stand which they each still display in their room at home. Joe and Carol will be missed.
