John "Remi" Bourgeois

John "Remi" Bourgeois, born August 23, 1928 in St. Amant, LA, a resident of New Orleans, died November 15, 2014, at St. Joseph's of Harahan. He was 86 years old and a native of St. Amant. He was a retired counselor from the State of Louisiana, Department of Labor where he worked for 29 years. He was a former member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant Louisiana where he was a member of the choir. He was also a former member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Orleans Louisiana where he served as Eucharistic Minister. On May 3, 1998, he received the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. This medallion is given to honor those members of the laity who have made outstanding contributions of their time and talent to the Church. It is one of the most coveted awards presented in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Special thanks to St. Josephs of Harahan and Hospice Associates for his care. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine S. Bourgeois; brothers, Bernard C. Bourgeois and Allard Bourgeois, both of St. Amant; sisters, Iris B. Lambert, Gonzales, and Gloria B. James of St. Amant, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Celanie Bourgeois; his sister, Rosemary B. Roberts; brother, J. Clyde Bourgeois and seven other siblings who died in childhood. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Jacob Schoen & Son, 3827 Canal Street on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
