John Callahan Obituary

John J. "Jack" Callahan Sr. 93, of Pottsville, died Saturday at GoldenLiving Center-York Terrace, Pottsville.

Born May 25, 1922, in Heckscherville, he was a son of the late Bart and Nellie Moran Callahan.

He attended St. Kieran's grade school and Cass Township High School. He was an Army veteran having served during World War II. He was employed by the former Alcoa and Pottsville Internist Association prior to retiring.

Jack was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, Catholic War Veteran Post 1051 and a social member of Human Fire Company, Pottsville.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ellen Callahan.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Anne Thomas Callahan, Pottsville; three daughters, Nancy Hanson and her husband, Patrick, Milltown, N.J., Jacqueline Kimmel and her husband, David, Schuylkill Haven, Sara Jane Givler and her husband, George, Ephrata; son, John J. Callahan Jr. and his wife, Donna, Pottsville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Rountree, Philadelphia, LaVerne Mollish Kovac, Forestville, M.D., and Patricia Muldowney, Liverpool, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jack's 94th birthday, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Memorial contributions can be made to GoldenLiving Activities Program, 2401 W. Market St., Pottsville PA, 17901. Interment with military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, is in charge of arrangements.
