John Cazenavette Obituary

Rev. John J. Cazenavette, S. J., a Jesuit for 64 years and a priest for 51 years, died in New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 3:55 p.m. Father named Jean Jacques Cazenavette at his birth in New Orleans on February 9, 1925, grew up in New Orleans and attended Jesuit High School and entered the Jesuits upon graduation in 1940. After ordination at Albert de Louvain, Louvain, Belgium, he returned to the United States and began a series of assignments for the next twenty years that brought him to high schools, parishes and the province offices. He taught at Jesuit High, New Orleans from 1955-1956 and was computer coordinator at Jesuit High in 1978 and at Loyola University from 1978 to 1982. For the last 30 years, he enjoyed the renown as an excellent computer programmer, serving all four province high schools along with the province offices. Father is survived by a brother, Lionel L. Cazenavette, two sisters, Sister Marie Jeanne Cazenavette, CSJ, and Mrs. Alfred (Mildred) Peiffer of Boynton Beach, FL. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY NAME OF JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 6367 ST. CHARLES AVENUE on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Jesuit Cemetery, St. Charles College, Grand Coteau, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jesuit Retirement Fund, 500 S. Jefferson Davis Pkwy., New Orleans, LA. 70119, preferred. Arrangements by Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home
