John Richard Mayer

John Richard "Dick" Mayer departed this life on Friday, March 24, 2017 in Covington, LA, age 85 years. He was born on September 8, 1931 in New Orleans, LA. He is survived by his wife Ruth St. Romain Mayer, his children Richard Mayer (Susan), David Mayer (Pamela), Lisa Carlson (David), and Nancy Mencke (Kevin), and Ruth's sons Henri Guertin and Roch Guertin (Lynn). He is also survived by grandchildren Philip Mayer, Amelia and Nathan Mencke, Georgia, Roch Jr., and Reese Guertin, and Philip Spaulding. He was predeceased by his father John Frederick Mayer, mother Jennie Lincoln Hanna Mayer, and sister Jennie Mayer Boue. He graduated from Isidore Newman School and Tulane University and served in the U.S. Army. After a long career in exploration with Texaco, he became a dedicated volunteer for Christ Episcopal Church, Christ Episcopal School, and the development of Christwood Retirement Community, all in Covington. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S. New Hampshire St., Covington, LA 70433 followed by a reception with the family in the parish hall. Those wishing to offer remembrances are encouraged to consider Christ Episcopal Church.
