John Young Obituary

John Randolph Young, Jr., M.D., died on Thursday, February 10, 2005 in Natchez, Mississippi. He was born August 30, 1936 in Greenwood, MS. His parents were the late John Randolph Young and Nancy Statham Young. Dr. Young received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University in 1958 and graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1961. He completed an internship at the Charity Hospital, a residency in otlaryngology at the Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Hospital, and a residency in general surgery at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, all in New Orleans, Louisiana, and afterwards completed a term of military service as Chief of Otolaryngology at the United States Air Force Hospital at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas from 1966-1968. Dr. Young was in private practice in Natchez from 1968 until the time of his death. He had served as Chief of Staff at the Natchez Regional Medical Center (1988) and at the Natchez Community Hospital (1983). He served as visiting surgeon at the Charity Hospital of Louisiana, as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Tulane University School of Medicine from 1978 to the time of his death, and as a Clinical Instructor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, School of Medicine from 1970 to 1978. Among other professional affiliations, Dr. Young was a diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. In addition, Dr. Young served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Tulane University Medical Center from 1988 to present, was a member and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of United Mississippi Bank, a member of the Governor's State Health Planning Advisory Council from 1972-1975, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi State Eleemosynary Institutions from 1972-1979. He was a member of the Natchez Rotary Club, the Pickwick Club of Orleans Orlans, and the Society of the War of 1812, Louisiana. Dr. Young is survived by his wife, Eleanor Eustis Young; and his daughter, Sarah Randolph Young. Other survivors include his brothers: Leonard A. Young of New Orleans and Samuel S. Young of Texas. A Graveside Service will be held at the Natchez City Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2005. Pallbears will be his nephews: Leonard A. Young, Jr., John S. Young, James Young, Charles Young, Fenwick Eustis V, Joshua B. Lehmann, Brett G. Cupples and Michael M. Wallace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Tulane University School of Medicine Scholarship Fund, 1430 Tulane Avenue TW34, New Orleans, Louisiana 70112; or to the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society; or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by LAIRD FUNERAL HOME.
