The photos I just posted are of Johnny in his amazing rose garden and the beautiful rose named after him shortly before his passing. My garden in Glendale, California still contains many roses from Johnny, and I remember him fondly every day.

For me, Johnny is frozen in time. In my mind he is still the precious young boy, walking through the halls of Belle Chasse High School with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his lips. Most of all to me he was "Ben's little brother". My heartfelt sympathy and prayers of comfort to his family.

I would like to thank God for the pleasure of getting to know Johnny, even though it was only for a brief period of time. When I think back to our conversations on the phone, I can hear his authoritative voice instructing me on how to care for his roses! We will definitely miss him. Johnny we loved you!

Johnny will be missed by everyone in the rose world. He contributed so much of his time to help others grow better roses and to enjoy the hobby. I feel fortunate to have heard his presentation and to learn some of his "ways". I cherish the roses I have of his and will think of him as I watch them grow and flourish.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Johnny will be missed. Every day I look at his roses in my garden, I will think of him. He was a wonderful person who shared his enthusiasm for his roses with all. I had much still to learn from Johnny...but his rose legacy will live on in my garden and in others who tend his roses.

My condolences to all of his family. You are in my prayers

Johnny Becnel was one of the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic rosarians I've ever known as well as a wild and wonderful human being. He was also a great teacher and passed along so much of his wisdom to the members of the rose community. I was incredibly fond of him and admired him immensely, and was so grateful to have spent time with him while I was in Louisiana. Johnny will be revered and remembered by the rose community forever and is sure to pass into the realm of legends. I will miss him more than words can ever say. Go with God, Johnny B. and beautify the gardens of Heaven.

I am so sorry to hear that Johnny is gone. No one was more knowledgeable about roses on fortuniana rootstock and no one was more willing to share that knowledge. I will think about him every time I look at the roses that I got from him. My deepest condolences go out to his family.
