Johnny Jung Obituary

Johnny Cheng-Hsiung Jung left this world for the next July 12, 2023 at the age of 83. He was born March 17, 1940 in Taipei, Taiwan to Mr. Lin Jung and Ms. Su A-Chao Jung. Johnny served in the Taiwan R.O.C. Army Reserve. Earning a rank of 2nd Lieutenant, he specialized in defense security on Kinmen Island in the Taiwan Strait. After fulfilling his mandatory military requirements, he earned a Bachelor of Business Management from the National Taiwan Ocean University. Putting his education to work, he created and operated both a travel agency and a pharmaceutical capsule company. In 1978, Johnny immigrated to the United States to pursue the American dream with his two young children, Andy and Wendy. Continuing to use his background in business administration, he managed a number of retail stores and also worked in hotel hospitality until his retirement in 2012. In 1984, he achieved his lifelong dream and became a naturalized citizen of the United States. He was immensely proud of being a first generation American, but he also remained dedicated to his homeland and was an active member of the Taiwanese Association of New Orleans where he served on the Board of Directors. In retirement, Johnny never met a senior discount or perk he didn't like. He was particularly adept at finding the best deals on groceries and amenities that he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends. Johnny had a strong and enduring spirit that enabled him to successfully conquer often terminal bile duct cancer in 2012 and then lung cancer in 2019. One of his proudest accomplishments was that of being a dad, feeling happiest when sharing a meal with Andy and Wendy where the love and affection toward his children and their accomplishments was easily felt. Mr. Jung is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Cheng-Wa Jung and Cheng-Kung Jung, sister Chiung-Ju Jung, and son-in-law, Dr. Christopher Linn. He is survived by his son Andy Jung of Metairie, LA and his daughter Dr. Wendy Jung of New Orleans, LA. He is also survived by two sisters, Joanhua Chi of Seattle, WA and Joan (Dr. Robert) Wang of Boston, MA, and a brother, Cheng-Ming (Wei-Chuan) Jung of Taipei, Taiwan. The Jung family expresses much gratitude to the medical staff at Taipei City Hospital, East Jefferson General Hospital, and Fresenius Kidney Care in Metairie for their excellent care over the years. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA 70001. Visitation begins at 10 am and the service begins at 12 pm.
