Jonathan Morgan Obituary

Jonathan Charles Morgan,19, of Mandeville, LA passed on to eternal life on Saturday, April 8, 2017. He was the beloved son born to Paul Christian Morgan and Karen Borde Morgan on Tuesday, November 18, 1997 in Metairie, LA. Jonathan is survived by his Father Paul C. Morgan, Mother Karen B. Morgan and Brother Jacob Paul Morgan. He is also survived by Grandmother JoAnn Borne Morgan, Grandmother Audrey Kern Borde, Grandfather Wayne Andrew Borde and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Charles O. Morgan, Jr and his Nanny Ruth Magdeline Borde. Jonathan loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a 2016 Graduate of Mandeville High School where he was a member of the football team, the gifted program and an honor student. He was a freshman at LSU. Jonathan loved music and playing the guitar. He loved the outdoors; kayaking, fishing, and camping with his dad, brother and friends. Jonathan always had a smile that lit up the world. He was creative, smart and funny, always bringing laughter and joy to his family and friends. Jonathan had a huge heart; he had a caring and kind soul and loved life to its fullest. Jonathan was taken from us way too soon and is now in his Heavenly Father's arms. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. We will see you again soon, sweet son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. A celebration of Jonathan's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Church of the King, 22205 Little Creek Rd. Mandeville, LA 70471. I also was included at the family gathering in March. Jonathan gave me his sweet smile and a great big bear hug. I will always remember him this way. Very caring and polite young man. I also remember how excited you were when your parents came to pick you up from my house and my boys had given you a cache of toys, you were so grateful and happy, even though you could only choose one. I'm so glad that I knew you and will always remember you. Its really hard to know I will have that last hug to treasure but treasure it I will. I pray for you, Jonathan, Paul, Karen and Jacob every chance I get. You had a special child on earth but now the Lord has called him to be back with him.

Love and prayers for all,

I was very lucky to have just been with Jonathan in March at a birthday party for my Mom. Prior to that, I hadn't seen him in probably a year. That's one of the unfortunate things about living so far away from "home"; I don't get to see family nearly as often as I'd like. And you never really get to know your nieces and nephews who were born after you moved away.

Whenever I saw Jonathan, though, he was always very sweet...and oh-so-polite. He was quiet and soft spoken. There was no doubt of his intelligence and his talent.

I learned during that recent gathering at my Mom's house that he could play the piano. As I worked in the kitchen, he passed by me -- to the dining room, I assumed -- but when shortly thereafter I heard piano music coming from the front of the house, I knew ...it could only be Jonathan playing. How I wish I had left my post at the sink and gone to listen. Maybe we'd have had a conversation I could reflect back on. Instead I have nothing but this wondering "what if".

I have a card that says "Life is the art of drawing without an eraser". Obviously, if I could "re-draw" that moment, I'd have seized upon the opportunity to connect with Jonathan one-to-one. Now I just have this regret that I never really knew the nephew I now grieve. And I wonder...what does it take for us to finally realize that life doesn't always come with second chances.

Heavenly Father, I pray, in your infinite mercy and with your beautiful hand, please draw wisdom, guidance, peace and understanding out of this horrible tragedy.

Paul, Karen, and Jacob, you are in my thoughts and prayers now more than ever.

Love
Jo

I've lived out-of-state ever since Jonathan, my nephew, was born, so I saw him infrequently over the years. But what always stood out the most for me about him was his calm and engaging personality. By the time he was a teenager, he had social skills well beyond his years. During family gatherings, which at times could be large, he seemed to make it a point to seek everyone out, just to say hello and find out what was new. I'd never known him to be in a bad mood, always greeting everyone with a smile. I'll miss him showing me new guitar licks and our chats about vintage guitars. There will be a void now in my visits back home, and it will be profound and it will last forever. Rest in peace my friend.

April 12, 2017

Dear Karen, Paul, & Jacob,

My heart breaks for you all. I am so very, very sorry! My family has such wonderful memories of Jonathan. We were so blessed that Jonathan & Daniel were paired for the "Indian Project", the "Atom Project" and that they were partners with their "buddies" at Heritage Manor. Jonathan had us all smiling as Daniel and he worked on their projects. There were "some" breaks and Jonathan would show us his impression of Michael Jackson's dance. He was REALLY good!!
I was able to more recently see Jonathan when we installed battery powered blinds in our house, and he walked in as the helper to install! He was all grown up but still had that beautiful smile! Our paths crossed again when he was working at Dollar General. What a treat it was to see him again.
We will all hold on to the great memories of Jonathan!!
Please know that we are praying for God's peace to be with you all.

Much love,
Lisa Rockwell (and family)

Karen, Paul,& Jacob,

We are praying that you will be blessed with God's comfort and peace at this most difficult time.
We had the privilege of being touched in a special way by Jonathan when we taught him in our pre-K class at Holy Trinity Lutheran. Whatever Jonathan was doing--singing, learning, playing, praying or simply SMILING--it was evident that he truly had the love of Jesus in his heart. We will always remember him fondly.
