Joseph LoCicero Obituary

Joseph "Mr. Joe" LoCicero peacefully entered into eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 18th, joyously reuniting with his devoted wife Dorothy, to whom he was married for 62 years. Mr. Joe was 88, born on April 20, 1928 in New Orleans, the son of Battiste and Marcelle LoCicero, brother to Audrey Smith and Diane LoCicero, father to Kirk John LoCicero, Kim Autin and Kathy McConnell (Kelle) and grandfather to Bobby and Jason Autin and Kameron McConnell. Mr. Joe loved the Lord from an early age, serving as an altar boy starting at age 7 at the St. Louis Cathedral Church. He became a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Kenner where, over the years, he taught many classes in the Scripture, ultimately writing his own personal testimony, The Fullness Of Israel. Mr. Joe was an accountant by profession, having worked extensively in the automobile business in New Orleans until his retirement. As a young man, he attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and played trombone as a member of the marching Tiger Band from Tiger Land. Mr. Joe always centered his life on his family and his friends in the Lord. He loved fishing and boating and was an avid aviator, spending many years at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport, piloting small planes for recreation, thrilling his young children with rides over the lake and above the city. His kindness and gentle spirit were a joy to all who cared for him in his later years including Beverly, Dollie, Darleen, Mindy, Lauren, Lisa, Peggy, Jeanne and Donielle. He grew to love them all as deeply as his own family. Their dedication and devotion to him was boundless. The family wishes to extend our most heartfelt thanks to each of you for the joy and richness you brought to his life by your presence. Although our heart is breaking at dad's departure, we are comforted in the certainty that he is now in the loving arms of Jesus, rejoicing with his loved ones in the glorious fulfillment of the Lord's promise that his soul will live forever in heavenly peace. Visitation will be on Friday, September 23, at 10:00am at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home with a prayer service at 11:00am in the All Saints Mauseleum. What can I say about Joe that has not been said already.. For me he was the kindest and most generous patient I ever had the pleasure working with. The past 2 years I had the opportunity to care for this fine man. He loved life and loved spending time riding and seeing his beloved New Orleans...St Louis Cathedral was the place he enjoyed the most. Many days were spent roaming this great city of his. He also loved the Stage Door Canteen performances and looked forward every visit..Joe touched my heart in many ways, always a gentleman, sweet and very courteous. I miss him everyday and I know he is with Ms Dot, the love of his life, and will forever remember Mr. Joe, a man of great knowledge, courage and love.

I just heard of Mr. Joe's passing. We didn't know him long or see him often, but it was always a pleasure when he walked in the doors of the Harahan Senior Center. He brought the sunshine and happiness with his sweet gentle ways and brilliant smile. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you his family. With deepest sympathy, Lynn Courreges, Harahan Senior Center

Joe and I shared many fishing trips together in the inland waters of the Gulf. We may not have caught fish on all the trips, but we had fun and enjoyed talking about the Lord and the Bible. Joe is now probably asking the Lord if that River in heaven has any fish!

We thought of Joe and Dot as our surrogate parents and spent many holidays and celebrations together as part of the LoCicero clan. We are privileged to be part of this phenomenal family and hold Kirk, Kim and Kathy in our hearts. Even during this time of great sadness, it is comforting to know that Mr. Joe is reunited with Miss Dot. All our love, Preston and Kathleen Holton

He is now filled with joy and peace. I loved and cared for this man as If he was my own father. My heart is full of joy and pain at this time. He will always have a special place in my heart. I respect the fact that he never stopped trying to do for himself throughout his illnesses. He was always very thankful for anything I did for him. I will truly miss him.
May God give the family peace and comfort at this time of a dearly lost.

My thoughts are with you,
