Judith Gillis Obituary

Judith Gillis (nee Ellenbogen)- 76 of Slidell, LA (formerly Galloway, NJ and Delray Beach, FL) passed away on January 2, 2023. Born on July 25, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Anne Ellenbogen. Judith attended the Ventnor school system and Atlantic City High School. Judith maintained a solid faith, a loving heart, and a sense of humor until the end. She was a "pretty lady", the most beautiful flower in her garden, artist, chef in her kitchen, and she was always ready to "show you how to do it." Judith was a leader in the Atlantic City business world too. She owned and operated Atlantic City Records and Tapes (ACRAT) for many years on Ventnor Ave prior to moving the business to Tilton Road. After ACRAT, Judith was employed in various executive positions in the hospitality industry. In 1990, Judith created one of the first female owned and operated casino businesses in Atlantic City; Palladin Tour & Travel. Judith ran Palladin with her daughters Jennifer and Amy Beth until she retired in 2016, while her eldest daughter, Renee, followed in her footsteps opening her very own travel agency, Wonderful World of Travel. Judith was an innovator and a no-nonsense businesswoman; but could party (Ketel One Martini, dirty of course), and dance like no one else after 5 pm, or 3 pm at the American Bus Association Marketplace! She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Selby Gillis as well as her daughters, Renee Killen Krutsick (Jack) of Ocean City, Jennifer Hopkins George (Jeff) of Ventnor, and Amy Beth Piccinino (Rob) of Northfield. Judith was a wonderful grandmother and storyteller to Ryan Killen (Katie), Jake Krutsick (Baillie), Rick Hopkins, Nate George, Mikey and Kailyn Clark, Hayden Piccinino and great grandmother to Annabelle and Austin Killen. Judith is also survived by her stepson Doug Gillis (Jennifer) and grandchildren Cristelle Gillis, Marissa Wood and great grandson Doug Gillis, Jr. And we cannot forget her favorite four-legged love of her life, Scottie! Judith was blessed with many friends throughout her personal life and professional career. A special thank you to Sandra from Comfor Care, Makena, Donna and the team from Canon Hospice, and the staff at SummerHouse Park Provence Memory Center for loving and compassionate care over the past sixteen months. A proper dance party filled with laughter, "you betcha" memories, and cocktails will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Judith's name to the Alzheimer's Association- Help Fight Alzheimer's, www.act.alz.org

So sorry, she was a tough woman, but always a lady.
That's how I still remember her... - B

-Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning´s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Judi touched the lives of so many. Her loss is deeply felt. Memories of afternoon coffee talks, bbqs, going to church services together and shopping will remain alive in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Really miss not visiting her every Sunday at the SummerHouse Park Provence Memory Center. Donna and Nicky loved to make her smile. She had a beautiful smile.
Even though we are sad, we won't think of Judi in a faraway place, but as an angel from heaven, watching over us.

Judy hired me in 1981 to work at the opening of the Playboy Hotel Casino. Years later she was my Manager again at The Madison House. I went on to Resort and then Tropicana however we stayed friends and she always had my utmost respect and loyalty. Highly supportive, smart and an incredible business person. Always did and always will have my love.

Judi wasn´t just a "pretty lady" but she was stunning! She lit up a room with her personality and her zest for life. We vacationed together in Mexico and we had lots of laughs and stories to tell!! I was lucky to have her in my life. Sending my deepest sympathies to Renee, Jenn, and Amy and their families, with much love.

Growing up with "Judy" Aunt Annie and Uncle Abe was true joy. We were a close family until they moved to Ventnor from Passaic, NJ.
Her mother was one of my mother Norma´s older sisters. Family get togethers were special events. There were many! And always filled games, music, good Jewish food, stories of the past and great fun.
l will always remember those moments. And want her family to know what fabulous kid she was growing up!
As she has transitioned, to another dimension in this huge universe, her spirit will forever shine.
My sympathy and Love to all.
Your cousin in Los Angeles, Ca.,
