Karen Foster Obituary

Karen B. Foster, went peacefully to her Heavenly Father on Friday October 23, 2015 at the age of 58. Karen was born October 6, 1957 in New Orleans, La to the union of the late, Thelma (Rubin) Robertson and John Ali (Elaine) Brown. Karen attended Phyllis Wheatley Elementary, Andrew J. bell Jr. High and Joseph S Clark Sr. High School C/O 1975. ""KB"" was just a 6th Ward Girl. She loved second lines, festivals and parties. Parkway was a normal PoBoy to her and the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure has been a part of her family for years. But, most of all she loved being a Clark Bulldog, where she lead the majorettes as captain. Karen went on to Southern University A&M in Baton Rouge, La where she graduated in 1979. ""KB"" was a proud Alumnus and nothing made her more excited than to see Southern University Human Jukebox band perform at halftime of the granddaddy of Classics ""The Bayou Classic"". ""KB"" would always speak of the good times and lessons she learned in Baton Rouge. Mrs. Foster was an employee of the United States Postal Service for 18 years where she loved her post office family dearly. For 30 years Karen volunteer in Marrero, La at MAC (Marrero Action center) Playground, now known as Johnny Jacobs. This is where she left her legacy coaching and mentoring hundreds of kids. From organizing spirit bowls to battling councilmen for an athletic track, she did it all. But, most popular for her and her husband was co-founding a nationally recognized basketball organization. ""The Westbank Razorbacks"". The Razorbacks went on to win 11 state titles and 2 national titles but her biggest victory was giving young men an opportunity to showcase their talents on a national level and better themselves on and off the court. She and her husband then went on to volunteer at their children's high school, Edna Karr it was at Karr that Karen helped organize ""Karr's Booster Club, now known as Cougar Nation. She loved being involved and being active in kid's lives. That's what she was about, KIDS. Karen loved helping kids. She is the devoted wife of 35 years to Ethridge Lee Foster Sr., Cherished mother of Ethridge Lee Foster Jr. and Nicholas Anthony Foster; Grandmother to Ethridge Lee Foster, III. Sister of Dr. Leonard Lewis, III and Kevin Spann Sr. also survived by uncles Gilbert and Joseph Kennison and a host of aunts, unlces, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. ""KB"" accepted the Lord at an early age, being Baptized and took her first communion at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Karen was stricken with a stroke at the early age of 48 but fought the fight with her illness for 10 years. 58 years is a short lifetime but the mark you left is unforgettable and truly inspiring. KB, THANK YOU for all of the memories and life lessons. WE LOVE YOU. Relatives and friends of the family also priest and parishoners of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church are all invited to attend the mass of Christian Burial on Saturday November 7, 2015 at 10:00am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church 1923 St. Philip St., NOLA 70116. What can I begin to say about this wonderful person we affectionately called KB? My heart is so full right now. Karen gave her heart and her love to everyone she encountered. She brought so much joy to so many people and will be truly missed. The last time I saw her and as much as she was going through, she was encouraging me to hang tough and look at the good in all situations. I love you and will miss you. Can't wave across the waters to you anymore. Praying for all of you; Etheridge, EJ and Nicholas. Just know she loved you more than life itself. I will continue to lift you up in prayer. Peace be with you forever more.
