Kelly Frailing Obituary

The world wasn't yet aware of its good fortune when Dr. Kelly Lynne Frailing entered it on July 8, 1977. But her friends, family and those who had the good fortune to work with her and learn from her certainly know what it lost when she left the world on December 11, 2022. Kelly will be continually missed by her loving husband Jack "Jay" Edward James Reese, Jr and their beloved daughter Matilda Jane Reese. Kelly was loved by everyone who knew her, especially her Mom, Sandie Lynne (Babich) Guenert (previously married to Timothy Mark Frailing d. 1988), her Dad Bob Thomas Guenert, her Brother Andrew Paul Frailing, her Grandfather Paul Frank Babich, her Aunt and Uncle Paul and Jan Babic and Cousin Julie Babic. Her family lovingly includes her Father in Law Jack Edward James Reese, Sr., Mother in Law DelRita O'Neill Reese, Sister and Brother in Law Heidi and Lionel Bienvenu, and their children Bryce and Quinn. Kelly's memory will continue through the impact and good works of her colleagues and students at Loyola University, the loving remembrances and wild stories told by her many dear friends, who were known to Matilda as Aunts and Uncles. And especially through her colleague, mentor, and friend Dee Wood Harper, Jr. Kelly's sharp wit and superb sense of humor were unmatched. Kelly was born in Milwaukee, WI and spent much of her young life in Arizona. She was the valedictorian of the class of 1995 at Coronado High School in Phoenix, AZ, the valedictorian of the class of 1999 at Grinnell College, she graduated with honors from Loyola in 2007 with the Ignatian Award for Outstanding Graduate Student and the La Nasa-Greco Endowed Scholarship. Kelly was admitted to King's College at Cambridge University (Cambridge, UK) as the recipient of the Overseas Research Studentship Award in 2008. Kelly was known as the world's premier researcher and scholar on Crime and Criminal Justice in Disaster, and a committed scholar in the field of Mental Health and Drug Courts. She impacted so many lives through her work, her books, and her teachings. Kelly was so many things to so many people. In addition to her superior scholarship and intellect, it is her friendship and partnership to the people who loved her that will be missed the most. The love that Kelly gave to her friends and family will be cherished forever. Celebration of life services will be held January 24, 2023 at 12:45 pm at the Ignatius Chapel at Loyola University, 6363 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, LA 70118.

Dr. Frailing was my professor and I just found out she passed. I can't believe such a beautiful soul, a great loss. She loved being a professor, as she went beyond the call of duty to make sure you succeeded by sharing her expertise, research, and journals so that as a student academic comprehension was achieved. Thank you, Dr. Frailing ---you will always be in my heart, as you made a difference in my life. Eliza
