Kevin E. Verrett

Kevin E. Verrett departed this life on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the age of 67. Son of the late Doris Woods and Grover Verrett. Former spouse of Theory Bastian-Verrett. Father of Stacia Verrett and Erik Verrett. Brother of Kenneth (Lucille), Karen, Kerrylynn (the late Rufus), Kirk and Keith. Kevin is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, 9 half-siblings, other relatives and friends. He was born at Charity Hospital and raised in the Desire Projects of New Orleans, Louisiana. Kevin strived to be independent and reliable from a young age. He was brilliant and maintained straight A's throughout his academic career. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School - class of 1973, and attended Southern University, where he became a proud member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Mu Psi Chapter. Kevin later went on to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Information Technology - Computer Network Systems at ITT Technical Institute, where he was the Valedictorian at the age of 58! He always encouraged others to pursue education and let nothing stop you. Kevin served in the U.S. Air Force for over 11 years and received the Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, Second Device and Air Force Longevity Service Award, First Device. He was a certified Medical Laboratory Technician, and his skills were requested in several hospital laboratories across the country. He enjoyed the thrill of traveling and seeing the world. Kevin loved sharing life stories, advice, and lessons he learned to anyone who would listen. He was serious about patient care but also brightened every work environment by keeping others laughing. He was the life of any party and would say "I want to know what it is to be alive, and not just live". Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, May 14, 2022, for 10:00 a.m. at The Boyd Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Hwy, New Orleans, LA 70126.
