Mr. Larry was like a second father to me. I spent as much time in his home as I did in my own. I came to realize his love for me as time went by when he began to discipline me as his own daughter.
He called me Anne Dufive when we met because I was only five. He carried that throughout my life and not long before he passed I visited him and he brought it up, as always. He asked “What is it now Anne Duforty what?” I was pleased to answer him Duforty-eight. It was in that moment that I realized how blessed I have been to have shared so many years with him.
He was an amazing man and I will miss his steady presence in my life. My prayers are with Mom Faye, Pam, Laura and Marla. He will live in your memories and in your hearts forever.
All my love,
Anne

As a grandfather he was very loving and inspiring. He was joyful & independant and I looked up to him in so many ways. He always wanted the best for me and was always ready to show me the right and most efficient ways to do things. He was probably the best, most influencing Grandpa one could ever ask for. I love you and miss you soooooo much and always will!

Uncle Larry was very loving & dedicated. He was easy going and a fun loving guy. He was the peace keeper of the family Bourre' games.

Grandpa was a dedicated man that knew the value of hard work and taught it to all his grandchildren. I'll never forget waking up after sleepovers at their house, wondering what kind of special breakfast he cooked for us that morning; especially on "garage sale" days. Even though everyone thought he favored the boys, all the girls knew we held a soft, special place in his heart, and he will always hold a special place in ours.

As a kid I spent a lot of time with Uncle Larry. Our families did lots of things together. We went on countless fishing trips together, Uncle Larry, my dad, me & cousin Frog (my little brother). Spending that much time with my uncle, I've become very close to him. Uncle Larry, I'll miss you.

As a grandfather you were there for the good times and bad. You never gave up on anything and turned me into the man I am today. You made me want to better myself, but most of all you made me feel loved. I'm so gratefulI I was able to enjoy and share the beautiful life you lived. Love you P-Paw!

As a grandfather he was one of my greatest guardian angels, severed as a caring, knowledge giving and loving father. He wanted my brother and I to succeed in everything we did. I am honored to have known such a great, strong man and hope to be more like him in the future. Hey P-Paw, "tell Dad hello for me and watch over our family.

As a grandfather he was a man everyone in the family looked up to. He gave us guidance and peace of mind to lead us in a good direction. He was there when we needed help and always had us laughing. But most importantly he has given us memories of times none of us shall ever forget. Ones everyone of us can have to be reminded of the wonderful life he lived and the amazing days we were so fortunate to spend with him.

I have very fond memories of my Uncle Larry. All the fun times coming to N.O. visiting with all my family. A time he & Faye came to Seattle and had a fun & memorable time together. I have a plant I snipped from his garden in his back yard 10 yrs ago, that has turned into a small garden. Every time I water it I will think of him and love him & miss him forever.

Words of Rememberance-

An incredible man, an incredible life, we are all so very blessed to have shared his life with him.
In an interview he did with his granddaughter yrs ago, he remembered, as a child, the world being very simple. He loved riding horses, playing in swamps, catching fish and crawfish. For fun he played football with the kids in the neighborhood and Brick Wars with his brother. His responsibilities during the war were cooking, cleaning and taking care of the house.
His first real job was taking care of the apartments his family owned by repairing what needed fixin.
His greatest joy was having his family and his greatest sorrow was the loss of his son.
He was a very proud Marine. His most memorable military experience was when he was going to go over seas to help others during the war, but all of the troops were wiped out the day before he was to be deployed. He also boasted about the fact that the Sgt Major he worked under was in the Death March of Bataan. He was very proud of that assignment.
He LOVED his LORD and invited Him into his life. He always made time to include Him daily.
He LOVED his wife, children & grandchildren. He LOVED his brother, sister & extended family & his friends.
He LOVED his golf, his casino, his beloved Marines & his beloved St. Alouisus.
He LOVED roses on a rose bush, picking them and giving them to the important women in his life to make them feel special.
He LOVED being outside, the beach, sun and wind. He LOVED picking berries & pecans, fishing, eating crawfish, having a BIG breakfast and cooking big meals to feed his family & friends. Everyone remembers his famous vegetable soup.
He LOVED soft things, his socks, white t-shirts & fuzzy blankets.
He LOVED his barn, his tractor, his COORS LIGHT and, in his early days, his scotch.
He LOVED fixing things. He said all you need is glue, WD-40, duct tape, close pins, macuracome, methiolate, campho phnique or black drawing salve, and anything can be fixed.
He LOVED history and watching old old movies. He LOVED mathematics, physics & chemistry. He had mathematical solutions for everything, even at the casino. He had video tapes of these subjects for his grandkids to watch, always trying to help them learn & understand the world and how things worked.
He LOVED a party and to dance. He LOVED Halloween…. Always dressing up and serving “blood” to all visitors (red wine for the adults & red kool-aide for the kids). He was energized by people, always practical, frugal and insisted on using common sense. Winn Dixie will miss him, he was always the first one there on Wednesdays for the buy one, get one free sale.
As a husband he was kind, a good provider, helpful towards others, smart, supportative, and a great problem solver.
As a father he was loving, kind, brave, truthful, stern, generous, full of life, always wanting to guide & give advice. He was a Family Man. He always advised not to worry about the little things, Life is too short.
As a grandfather he was a man that everyone looked up to, loving, strong, supportative, inspiring, hard working, always giving guidance & helping to ensure success. He always wanted to show the quickest & most efficient way to do things.
As a caregiver he was driven & committed, 110%. He got mom rehabbed to the point she is today. That was HIS PROJECT. He was very possessive and insistent that we stay on his plan.
As a Marine he was proud, brave, loyal, meticulous, and forever faithful.
As a Brother he enjoyed life and he was a best friend.
As a father in law he was kind, generous & a wonderful support.
As an uncle he was loving, caring and never afraid to show emotion. He was genuine, inspirational and the family peace maker. He was held in great respect.
As a friend he was like a brother in everything he did.
As a patient he was brave, strong & obedient. He always tried to figure things out and understand why things happened and how they could be fixed.
In the hospital, several days before he left us, he said, “Who said I was giving up! You know me better than that. I NEVER give up!” With this in mind, we know he fought til the very end. His kidneys were bad for a long time, but they didn't fail. His heart was bad, requiring stents & heart surgery in the past, but it didn't fail. His lungs were bad the last few months, but even they didn't fail. He ultimately passed because his liver failed. He didn't give up. In his mind, he won HIS Battle!
At the end, he was surrounded by 35 of his closet family & friends in his hospital room. The sun was glistening through the window shining on his face, the wind blowing outside. As the sun went down, he went to meet his Lord. In his final hours, he reached up several times with his left arm as if he was reaching for the light, to join his family & friends or possibly he was being pulled to the place he was to rest and meet his LORD. It certainly was a beautiful, peaceful exit. I'm sure he planned it exactly that way.
He was known to us as “Sugar Bear, Fred, Daddy, grandpa, p-pa, Unc, Mr. Fix it, and Tiger”. However you knew him, we were all privileged to be a part of his life. He gave everyone memories that we shall forever cherish. We are all so grateful to have shared the beautiful life he lived and we were fortunate to spend so many amazing days with him. He was a VERY SPECIAL MAN!

Miss Faye and family, surely our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences are with all of you. There is no denying the huge impact this loss will have on all who knew him. Mr. Larry was many things to me; mentor, finiancial consultant, psychologist, golfing buddy, storyteller, occasional fishing padna but most of all the greatest friend anyone could ask for. This proves again that the dimensions of grief are limitless. May God's blessings and favor be with you all.

Mr. Larry was a very significant cousin in my life. He was more like a brother and he and my brother were very close friends too. I always knew he was there but due to illness, I had failed to get down to see him in NO. He called me regularly when I was battling cancer, always lifting me up. My life will be less glorious with his voice and wonderful words of encouragement on the other end of the phone. I will pray for all of his family to heal from their loss of this great person. I loved him so. Cousin, Cec

My deepest sympathies to all my cousins in Louisiana. Know that all of us Wagner's in NC, MD, VA and NY are thinking of you all. We all loved Larry so much and we have fond memories of his visits up to our house in Maryland. Larry had a striking resemblance to our dad Jim, Larry's cousin. We had great times with Larry at family reunions, especially the one in Mississippi and the one in Iowa. Larry and I played a fun round of golf that last time I was down in New Orleans and you all sat me down with and served me “Shrimp ____” and good whiskey – the “Wagner Way”. Larry was the one cousin of my dad's, out of dozens, that I got to know the best. He was truly a kind man with a big heart and will be having fun in heaven with David and all the other Wagner's, but he will be missed for sure. Hugs to all!

April 16, 2012

Faye, Laura, Marla, Pam,
I am sorry to hear about your loss and I truly understand what you are going through and I want to let you know if anyone needs and ear, just give me a call...Laura can get my information to call. I know there are no words that can make things better but it really helps to have someone just to listen and understand. It is with great sorrow to say that I will not be able to make the services. It is still difficult for me since we lost Alex at Christmas. Please know that I will be thinking of everyone and I hope that Larry and David have already met their cousin Alex in Heaven. Hugs to everyone.
Love from your cousin,
