How odd that I would be informed of your passing while attending the Zulu parade this year. Brother Ed Murray broke ranks to come over to me and mention it, and I thank him for doing so.
Thank you for welcoming me into the Alpha Phi Omega fold and being a part of my nurturing. Godspeed on the final leg of your journey, and may your path be clear and bright. Always the nicest and most welcoming person, and you will be sorely missed. A Life of Service well lived....

LaSalle was truly on the police force to protect and serve. He never made any "knee jerk" decisions. He was thoughtful and kind and "One of a Kind". After he left the police department, I was happy to communicate with him as an avid listener and commentator on WBOK.
He was a consistent supporter of Louis Armstrong Family Services. I appreciated his loyalty and I always thanked him every time I saw him.
I give My Deepest Condolences to his entire family and friends.

I was saddened this morning when I read of LaSalle's passing. There was a window in our early NOPD careers where we crossed paths and became partners working in the 2nd District Followup Unit. Aside from the police work we enjoyed, there was a friendship and trust formed I think about from time to time, and when reflecting back on the countless hours spent on stakeouts and patrolling the streets of uptown New Orleans, what stands out most when I think of LaSalle is the laughter. We could laugh at each other and ourselves, and worked to make what was serious work, not so serious every now and then. Rest In Peace Partner and thanks for the fond memories.

To Carol and the Rattler Family,
The words to an old song come to mind when I think of LaSalle..."What a man, what man, what a mighty good man!"
I was only privileged to know LaSalle a few years, mostly through the the love and respect for him that you so freely shared with me. I grieve your loss, yet am thankful to have witnessed the love your family shared and will continue to share as a part of LaSalle's memory. May God's comfort hold you tightly...

.....Then there is my BIG brother LaSalle Rattler Jr. (my Dad's namesake) whose life of family commitment, unselfish service as a 33+ year retired NOPD officer is a testament to the values and morals instilled in us from the parents to whom we were born. As a public servant, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to lots of people everywhere, his life has always been a blueprint from which I have tried (and often failed) to live up to. Thank you, my brother, for being in my life.
....from the 2019 Ashe Fatherhood Consortium speech
Our lives will not be the same without you.
Sleep well Jr and I hope to see you again on the other side.
