Lauren Charles Obituary

Lauren Elizabeth-Barthé Charles, beloved daughter of John C. Charles, Jr. and the late Trudy Barthé Charles, transitioned from earth to glory on March 7, 2021. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 4, 1980, Lauren possessed a keen intellect, a zest for life and an insatiable curiosity. She graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School and went on to earn degrees from Johns Hopkins University, Pratt Institute and The University of Oregon School of Law. She was an accomplished professional and lived in the Washington DC area working as an attorney/lead project manager assigned to the Department of Justice for Leidos. She was an avid reader, an adventurous traveler and foodie, a fierce friend, a gifted leader, a kind soul and a lover of God and people. Lauren was preceded in death by her mother Trudy Barthé Charles and her grandparents, Earl A. Barthé and Louise Joyce Soublet Barthé, John Carlos Charles Sr. and Elenor Pierre Charles, and her aunt and godmother, Terry Barthé. She leaves to cherish her memory, her father, John C. Charles Jr.; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; her godchildren Sebastian Stephenson and Harmony Lewis; and friends too numerous to count. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that we honor Lauren's life and legacy through philanthropy. Donations may be made to establish a law student scholarship fund at the University of Oregon School of Law or to establish The Lauren Elizabeth-Barthé Charles Memorial Fund at the Greater New Orleans Foundation. Please send scholarship donations "in memory of Lauren E. Charles" to the University of Oregon School of Law, c/o The University of Oregon Foundation, 1720 E 13th Ave, Ste 410, Eugene, OR 97403 or giving.uoregon.edu. Please send memorial fund gifts "in memory of Lauren E. Charles" to the Greater New Orleans Foundation, 919 St Charles Ave, New Orleans, LA 70130 or gnof.org/donate. The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness of Lauren's many friends and our friends at De La Salle, St. Augustine and Archbishop Rummel high schools, and Toups Meatery. A Catholic Funeral Mass to celebrate Lauren's life will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church & International Shrine of St. Jude, 411 N Rampart St, New Orleans, LA on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 am. Visitation begins at 10:00 am. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue. Please visit www.rhodesfuneral.com to sign the guestbook and share condolences with the family.

Condolences to John and all of Lauren's family and friends. Eileen and Trudy were high school classmates. The three of us attended Xavier during the same time. John and I worked together at the Phone company. Our kids also attended Ben Franklin. It seems so New Orleans to have so many points of contact. May Lauren rest in peace. Ed and Eileen Spears
