Laurie Buckley Obituary

Laurie Ann Fredricks Buckley passed away on December 24, 2019, after a short but brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Laurie resided in Mandeville, Louisiana, but she lives on around the world in the hearts of those who loved her (thanks to Georgette, Bethany, Anni, Chloe, Matt, Niels, and that Italian soccer team for allowing us to say around the world and truly mean it). She was born April 3, 1959, to Annie and Earl Fredricks, little sister to Lisa Sandoz, and a year following became big sister to John Fredricks (Susan). She is survived by her loving husband Brady Buckley and their daughter Sarah, as well as a plethora of cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws, and a whole community of homeschoolers. Laurie started her own business, Learning With Laurie, tutoring homeschooled children; approximately 100 students are currently enrolled. Prior to becoming St. Tammany's best homeschool teacher, Laurie wore many other hats. She earned a Masters degree in social work from Tulane in 1991; Laurie's work history is diverse, but it was working with teenage girls at a wilderness rehabilitation camp in Florida that truly ignited her passion for helping teenagers. This began the path that led to Laurie's true purpose, teaching. Laurie spent most of her time at the classroom, so it seems fitting to have a celebration of her life there, too. Her family will host an informal wake - a FUNeral, as her sister-in-law Jackie suggested - at Learning With Laurie on January 4th, 2020, beginning at 1pm. Everyone who met Laurie loved her, and everyone who loved her will miss her greatly.

May God wrap his loving arms around Laurie's family, friends, and all who loved her so dearly during this difficult time. There are not enough adjectives to describe Laurie's beautiful soul, and the love she had for all children. Laurie was simply an angel. No other description is needed. While here with us, she spread her wings around everyone she knew, and guided and loved us all. Giving us comfort and spreading joy and her infectious happiness. In heaven, her wings will spread even wider as she will watch over us all forever. Our own guardian angel. Laurie touched our lives when we needed her most. She will live in our hearts forever.
She will be deeply missed.

Laurie will always be the lady God sent to help help children no one else could or wanted!! She Never turned anyone away. What a gift this wonderful lady was to so many. We were next door neighbors for years on Marilyn Dr. so many memories, experiences of nature, and the beauty of her precious birds. She shares all with my family. I always new she was there if needed or not . Comfort as only friends know. Watching Sara grow was her greatest Joy!! What a Joy she is then and now. Brady very quiet in the background, but very presented in her life. I guess my Happy is that I can say she was part of my life!! Thank You!

The Marchese family was one of her first homeschool families. She has had a huge impact on our family as well as many others. The relationship she had with our kids will live forever in their hearts and we will miss her fun personality forever. But today she is in paradise, whole, healthy and with God!
