Lionel E. Flotte Jr. PE

Lionel E. Flotte Jr., PE passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the age of 90. Beloved husband of Glenna Cain Flotte. Loving father of Brian Flotte, Lionel "Lon" Flotte, III (Ketha), and his stepchildren, Terry Harrell (Diane), Kim St. Romain (Stephen), and Todd Harrell (Gina). Beloved brother of Dudley Flotte (Lynn) and Mary Lee Lombard (Lee). He was a proud grandfather affectionately known as "Pappy" to 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Lionel was born in New Orleans, LA and was a resident of Mandeville, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lionel E. Flotte Sr., PE and Mary Schmaltz Flotte; his sister, Gloria Petrie; and stepson, Greg Harrell. Lionel was salt of the earth, with a heart of gold. He was very smart, kind, generous, helpful, and had a great sense of humor. He was loved by all that he touched and will surely be missed. Lionel was a US Navy veteran 1953-1957 and US Navy Reserve in the 1960's. Lionel graduated Salutatorian from Isidore Newman High School, he attended Tulane University, and received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). As a Licensed Professional Engineer for over 60 years, and Licensed Professional Surveyor for over 40 years, Lionel practiced structural and Civil Engineering with Co-Op-Co, Inc. and was the owner of award-winning Lionel E. Flotte & Associates, APC, New Orleans, Louisiana a civil engineering, architecture, and general contracting firm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 11:00am until 2:00pm.
