Lisa Renfree Obituary

Lisa Marie Morgan Renfree passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the age of 64. She came into this world, moved through it like a whirlwind, achieved her dreams, raised a family, and above all showed the world what it means to be a Christian. Lisa was born and raised in Algiers Point, one of five children. As a girl, she enjoyed visiting the family ("Paradise") farm in Mississippi where she tended to the horses. She graduated in 1985 from Charity School of Nursing where she began her career as an ER nurse and met her husband Kevin, a medical student at Tulane University. They married in New Orleans and after fun years spent together in the city, uprooted and moved across four different cities in support of her husband's additional medical training and military service. After becoming a mother, she gave up her nursing career to devote every waking moment and ounce of her vigor to raising her three boys. She and her family eventually settled in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona; but she always remained a proud New Orleanian and eager to share the city's rich culture of food, music, and people with everyone she met. She loved collecting driftwood, seashells and the flowers of magnolia trees, getting snowballs, and riding the Algiers ferry. She loved getting lost exploring the city's many vibrant neighborhoods and finding eclectic furniture to restore. She loved cooking her grandmother's Creole recipes and hosting parties to which everyone was invited. She loved dancing with her kids in the kitchen to New Orleans music and telling stories of her childhood. And she loved to help people. Like many others, Lisa deeply loved her family and friends, and would do anything for them. But more rarely seen amongst us, she did so much for those she didn't even know. She opened her family's home to complete strangers in need of a bed (sometimes to her peril); She delivered food to the sick and elderly with Meals on Wheels, becoming a dear (and often only) friend to many on her route; She volunteered as a school nurse and organized community service events for the students, which often involved yard work and home repairs for the disabled; She "adopted" a refugee family, who became an important and loved fixture of her own family; She replaced the worn tools of a homeless handyman and helped him find work; She snuck away during outings to befriend and lend an ear to the down-and-outs whom others hurriedly passed. There are too many examples of her kind, selfless heart. And she never sought recognition or reciprocation. She did these acts (and many, many more) because she loved to help others. Forever a free spirit, her voracious love for life, her "get-up-and-go" attitude, and zeal for new experiences energized everyone around her. She drew people out when they needed it most, creating wonderful memories for those who shared in her adventures. A remarkable woman who never sat still, her soul will live on in the many, many hearts that she touched during her short time on earth. Lisa is survived by her husband, Kevin, and beloved "boys" Sean, Brian and Charlie. She will be dearly missed by brothers Jeff Morgan, Andy Morgan (Sheila), Paul Morgan, her "little sister" Johanna Baldwin (Roger), her stern-faced but adoring Uncle Barry, her in-laws, various nieces and nephews, and her dear friends who hailed from all walks of life. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, 400 Verret St., Algiers Point at 12noon. Visitation will be held at the church from 10am-12pm. In lieu of flowers and sympathy gifts, please donate to one of Lisa's favorite charities Meals on Wheels or Circle the City in Phoenix, AZ. I am thinking of Kevin, Sean, Brian and Charlie today, the one year anniversary of Lisa's death. No doubt the past year has been very difficult as your lives will always be without her. Her legacy will live on as we remember the great person she was and the great things she did for others. Take care.

I knew Lisa for just one day. I was Kevin's high school English teacher, then a professional photographer, invited to fly from Santa Rosa to New Orleans to photograph their wedding in March, 1988. One image sticks out. I took the two of them to Bourbon Street on that Saturday night in their wedding clothes and photographed them as hordes of revelers passed by. Although I didn't know Lisa, I did know Kevin and the Renfree family. Reading her obituary gave me some insight into what a wonderful person she was. My heartfelt sympathies to all.

Her bright smile and enthusiasm inspired all of us to do more and be more. And her love for all her, "boys," was powerful! We are still in a state of shock after hearing of Lisa's passing. Lisa came into our lives when we lived in New Orleans and our three girls were very young. Lisa always came to the rescue when we needed someone to manage our household for a few days while we had to travel for business. She was so kind to our girls and so competent that we never had to worry when she was there. Over the many years we have stayed in touch with Lisa and have always admired this wonderful woman that so touched the lives of our whole family. We will miss her so much. We send our condolences to Kevin, Sean, Brian and Charlie.

Lisa was a powerhouse Christian Leader for the community. She was also the best storyteller of all her many adventures-my prayers to the Renfree family. Lisa touched my heart among the many.

Our condolences to the Renfree Family. Lisa was an amazing and selfless human being. I had the pleasure of knowing her back when our kids were in the young grades at Pope John XXIII and subsequently NDP. She is missed but she in a better place. May you rest in peace Lisa. Much love to you.

Lisa was an amazing colleague and friend who always supported the under dog! She happily volunteered to help with HopeKids Day, powder puff football, and other school activities when a nurse was needed outside of school hours. She was one of the first people to 100% support in the worst of times. I loved just hanging out with her to chat about our kids, our travels and life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

This is a shocking, heartbreaking loss. Lisa came into my life when our children attended Pope John Catholic School in Scottsdale, Arizona. We connected as RNs, and of course mothers. She was a true Southern belle- hospitable, generous and kind (and smart and beautiful). She was committed to helping at Pope John. She introduced Mardi Gras traditions and King Cake! She was an unbelievably supportive friend. I have too many great memories of my time with her to mention in this small space, but one poignant moment- she lent her grandmother's vintage, flapper style dress to my daughter, Anne, to wear to a school dance; it was such a sweet gesture that Anne has never forgotten. She found time for everyone, and her and Kevin's house was never empty. There was always incredible food offered. She was a dedicated wife, so proud of Kevin as a father and of his career, and very proud of Sean, Brian and Charlie. She will be missed terribly. My thoughts are with you- Kevin, Sean, Brian and Charlie and with her extended family.

Our family has known Lisa since "her boys" were in grade school. We have always known of her generous spirit and her joy of giving to those in need. She truly touched the hearts of countless numbers of people in a positive way and world is a better place because her. She knew what it meant to give back the world the gifts that God gave to her. May she rest easy in heaven with God our savior.

I met Lisa at a NDP football game even before becoming the chaplain at the school. I happened to sit right in front of her. Charile was in a cast with some protruding rods that kept poking me in the back. Lisa wasted no time apologizing and explaining to me that her son out on the field was the quarterback. In a moment I felt like I had known Lisa all my life and was part of the family. That was just her style. I remember pulling up to the Renfree home most every week during my years in Scottsdale. If it weren't for community service for the students loading everyone up in the truck, it was for a party, dinner, or other event. Lisa was instrumental in helping me to found "Bring-It" (young men's group) at NDP - she just knew how to make things happen. I haven't been back to Scottsdale for ten years now, but as I write this I am all choked up. Lisa was an extraordinary person, one of a kind, and I feel blessed to have known her. I have remembered her at every one of my Masses since hearing of her passing. May she rest in God's merciful peace and be rewarded for her incredible Christian love for each and every person she met in this world.
