Lorraine Smyth Mattei

1941 - 2022

Lorraine Smyth Mattei of Metairie, Louisiana passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the age of 80. She was born on August 29, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her father, Rightor Francis Smyth, and mother, Melanie Genevay Smyth. She is survived by her husband, Lyman Salvadore Mattei, her children, Brian Mattei (Becky) and Julie Fradella (Tim), grandchildren, Jonathan Mattei, Timothy Fradella, and Melanie Fradella, her sisters, Joyce Slauer (Art) and Carol Riggio (Joby), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lorraine was a loving wife of 60 years to her husband, Lyman, and wonderful mother to her children and grandchildren. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1959 and started working for the federal government immediately after high school. She retired in 2003 from the federal government after 20 years of service. Her favorite past times included gardening (if it wasn't too hot) and colorful yard art. She loved hosting all holidays and family festivities and was the best babysitter. More recently Lorraine enjoyed watching Murder She Wrote and the Hallmark channel. She will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd, Metairie, LA 70005, on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 12 p.m. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
