Lucy Myra Porter Jones

1940 - 2020

Lucy Myra "Madea" Porter Jones was born January 15, 1940 in Claiborne County, Mississippi to the late Mary Lee Richards (Porter) and Nick Taylor Porter of Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Better known as "Myra or Madea" accept Christ at an early age where her parents made such that her and siblings love and respect God with all their hearts. On October 10, 1959, Myra was united in Holy Matrimony to Rev. Elson Jones of Hazlehurst, Missisippi, for 60 years of blissful marriage. To this union 3 three children were born Valerie Ann of Avondale, Louisiana, Casey Wendell (Jacqueline) of Hammond, Louisiana, and the late Betty Jean whom she proceeds in death. Myra and her family are residents of Avondale where they lived for 51 years. On April 10, 2020 (Good Friday) at Ochsner Hospital, Jefferson Hwy., Jefferson, Louisiana, Myra received her heavenly wings and flew home to her heavenly Father who was awaiting her arrival. Until her untimely death, Myra served faithfully as a Deaconess on the Deaconess Ministry, a dutiful and loving Bible Study and Sunday School Student and as a Youth choir counselor for the youth choir of the Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Dr. Rev. Walter Hardy, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories her children Valerie and Casey (Jacqueline); grandchildren, Casey Jr., Tony and Tyra and 3 great-grandchildren; her sisters Willie Bell and Mildred Virgil both of Hazlehurst, Mississippi; in-laws and a host of nieces and nephews, Avondale neighbors and her beloved Church Family. A memorial service will be set at a later date when time permits. Richardson Funeral Home of Jefferson in charge of arrangements.
