Madeleine Forsythe Obituary

FORSYTHE Madeleine Sophie Henry Forsythe, born in New Orleans, Louisiana - January 22, 1923, and married to John W. Forsythe (deceased) from Jamaica. She passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2011. Madeleine Forsythe was a spirited person who was a pioneering chemist, an accomplished painter, an avid traveler, devoted wife and mother, and active participant in her church and community organizations. She attended Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated with degrees in Math and Chemistry in 1941. She was a research chemist at the Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. and a paint and chemical product developer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the 1940's. She won numerous awards for her work as a chemist. Later she attended George Washington University and received her Master's of Education in Rehabilitation Psychology and went on to a second career as a hospital administrator for the Department of Veteran Affairs. She spent her retirement years living in and enjoying the San Francisco Bay Area. Madeleine leaves behind her sister Rosary Ann Henry Martin and her husband Harden Martin and was predeceased by her four siblings: Varice Henry, Sylvester Henry, Joseph Henry, and Agatha Henry White. She also leaves behind her 4 daughters and their spouses: Mabel Forsythe and David Booker, Moira Forsythe and William Dobson, Janet Forsythe Birenbaum and Charles Birenbaum, Juanita Forsythe and Stanley Hunter, and her beloved niece, Wendy White Adcock and Frank Adcock. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Samuel, Jocelyn, and Paul Campbell, Alexandra and Danielle Forsythe, Benjamin and Julia Birenbaum, Harrison Hunter and Hamilton Forsythe as well as nephews: Andrew, Zachary, and Ryan Adcock. She also has four great-grandchildren: Janel, Carrington, Gabriel, and Simone Campbell. She leaves behind many caring nieces, nephews, friends and associates including her dear friend, Joyce Hing McGowan. Remembrances and donations can be made in her name to Xavier University of New Orleans and the National Hospice Foundation. Gone from earth but forever in our hearts. We will miss her dearly.
May her love and spirit comfort you. She now begins painting a new canvas. I "betcha" that crew (Madeleine, John, Joe, Aggie, Varice & Sylvester) are having a great time.
