Mariette Sanders Zanca

Mariette Sanders Zanca, 91, of Anderson, SC, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Tallahatta Springs, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late John Robert and Annie Bell Hill Sanders. She worked as a secretary for the U.S. Navy for many years. Early in her marriage, Mariette worked three jobs in order to assist her husband through college. A devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed serving as a den leader in the Cub Scouts and a scorekeeper at her sons' baseball and softball games. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Sam X. Zanca; and two sons, Sammy Zanca and Darrell Zanca. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by ten siblings, Helen S. Young, Hilda S. Tyler, Raymond Sanders, Iduma Sanders Englelbrach, Dorothy S. Jones, Olna S. Keel, Johnny Ralph Sanders, Julius "Mutt" Sanders, Myra Omalene "Missie" Hebert, and Robert Sanders. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Steve Silvey. Burial will follow at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
