Marilyn Salatamachia Obituary

Sister Marilyn (Sister Catherine) Salatamachia, C.S.J., a well loved teacher at Catholic Elementary in New Roads, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 1:35 a.m., at Sisters of St. Joseph Mother House in New Orleans, La. A native of New Orleans, Sister Marilyn was 67 years old. She was a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph Medaille for 50 years and survived by a sister, Carol Stack, of Kenner, two brothers, Joseph Saltamachia of Fulshear, Texas and Jake Saltamachia of Lafayette, La., and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob ''Jake'' and Edna Saltamachia. Sister Marilyn graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in New Orleans and from Loyola University. She received a master's degree in religious education from Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. Sister taught at Sacred Heart and St. George Schools in Baton Rouge; St. Rose of Lima in New Orleans, Sacred Heart in Norco, St. Ignatius in Grand Coteau and in New Roads as both teacher and religious director for the last 29 years until her recent illness. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 5, 2003 at Niland's Funeral Home in New Roads from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church from 8:00 a.m. until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., conducted by the Reverend Michael Schatzle. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Sisters of St. Joseph Development Fund, 1200 Mirabeau Ave., New Orleans, LA. 70122 or Catholic Elementary School, 302 Napoleon St., New Roads, LA. 70760
