Mary Conroy Obituary

Mary Lou Soulé Conroy, 96, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed on Sunday, July 7, 2024. She was born on June 23, 1928 in Baton Rouge, LA to Levin Cooper Soulé and Marie Louise Theriot Soulé. Her early childhood was spent on Arrowhead Plantation near St. Francisville, LA and also in Covington, LA. At the age of nine her family moved to New Orleans, where her father joined Soulé Business College as a professor. She attended Newcomb College. She was predeceased in death by her beloved husband of fifty-one years, George E. Conroy, Jr., and her adored granddaughter, Ashley Soulé Conroy. She is survived by two sons, George E. Conroy, III (Mary) of Phoenix, AZ and Stephen K. Conroy (Christie) of Metairie, LA; grandchildren Kim Conroy Branston (Dez), Courtney Conroy, Brad Conroy (Shanna), Brooke Conroy Bass (Barrett), Jeremy Conroy (Raquel), Emma Conroy, and Lily Conroy; and seven great-grandchildren. She was devoted to her family and credited them for giving her unlimited joy throughout her long life. She was involved in volunteer work at both the New Orleans Museum of Art where she chaired the Volunteer Committee and the Odyssey Ball, as well as the New Orleans public television station WYES where she co-chaired the WYES Auction. After many years of volunteering, she became a staff member at WYES as the Art Auction Manager. While on the staff at WYES, she was tapped to narrate the Great Chefs series, an experience she thoroughly enjoyed. After 50 years of service, she retired from WYES. She was a world class traveler, having visited all seven continents. Her favorite destination was Europe where she went to every country with the exception of Poland. She lived in Old Metairie for most of her adult life but moved to Mandeville in 1996 where she lived until 2022 when she moved back to New Orleans. The family will host a celebration of Mary Lou's life at a later date.

Mrs. Conroy was such a beautiful and accomplished lady that I felt privileged to have known. Johnny and I send our prayers to you, Steve and Christie and family, and to Terry and his family. May God's love comfort you all. Your Mom, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother lived a long and wonderful life. What a blessing she was to you all.

So sorry to hear this sad news about Mary Lou. I think of her so often as I look around my townhouse that I purchased from her. I truly enjoyed getting to know her.
