He graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1960, then pursued Electrical Engineering at Louisiana State University and the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Lavigne was an incredible inspiration in my life. As a child, I spent time playing at his home, where he always treated me with kindness, dignity, and respect. Growing up alongside his son, Justin, who was a childhood friend of mine, I witnessed firsthand the immense amount of time and dedication Dr. Lavigne put into his work and his family.

Some of my fondest childhood memories, like my first boat ride, trips to his camp, and attending Saints games, were all thanks to the invitations extended to me as Justin's friend. Dr. Lavigne always exuded a sense of calm, coolness, and collectedness in every moment.

I distinctly remember the letters on his boat and the curiosity they sparked in me as a child. When I finally asked him about the boat's name, "IERNDIS," he simply replied, "It means I earned this." In that moment, the significance of those words truly resonated with me, and I gained a deeper understanding of hard work and the gratification that comes from earning something meaningful. Dr. Lavigne's influence on me has been profound, shaping my values and outlook on life in a profound way. I never had an opportunity to tell him thank youbut I know in my heart he always knew and was proud.

I feel a deep heaviness in my heart now that he is gone. However, I find solace in the belief that his legacy will endure for eternity. Dr. Lavigne was a true Renaissance man who lived his best life right until the very end. His impact and influence will continue to inspire and guide others, just as he did for me.

I will always love you and your family and I want to truly thank you for everything that you did for me in helping me become the man I am today. You may be gone but your legacy will live forever and you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Doc! You were an amazing man.
