Michael McSweeney Obituary

On the evening of August 11th, 2023, Michael (Mike) John McSweeney was warmly embraced in Heaven. His Blessed Mother had her arms wide open, the Angels trumpeted on his arrival, and the love of his life, Thomas (Tom) Schelgel, smiled upon reuniting. Afterall, it was their 15 year wedding anniversary, to this day. His dad, John Philip McSweeney, was close behind, his beloved aunts, Odette, Pearl and Ida, and his spoiled beagles, Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Huckleberry and Maxamillion. Remaining on earth to continue Mike's legacy is his mom, Mary Catherine McSweeney, along with his 7 siblings, Mary Ann, Kathy, Patrick, Tommy, Karen, Maureen and Peggy, their spouses, the Schelgel family, a vast amount of friends, many nieces and nephews which he jokingly and seriously struggled to remember their names or confuse them and his plethora of godchildren, he could never keep track of who he was the godparent for. His dog, Sebastian, will be a wonderful living memory. Mike owned Pearl Computers, named after his Aunt Pearl whom he always held on a pedestal. After selling the company, he continued his career with Touro Hospital and retired recently from New Orleans Children's Hospital in 2023. Mike was very calculated, intelligent, genuine, and charming. He was extremely witty and his humor would make you cry with laughter. When he entered a room, you could feel the abundance of energetic energy. He was jolly, he always had a smile and for Christmas parties, there was always an ice chest of champagne in tow. Mike taught so many people how to "wine and dine", respectfully and with class. He has left us with his legacy and traditions. He will be forever missed, remembered at every gathering and in between. We extend a special thank you to all of his caretakers. Mike's wishes were for guests to attend visitation at Garden of Memories, Thursday August 17th, 9am - 10:30am visitation, The Rosary will occur 10am - 10:30am followed by mass and the burial. A celebration of life and champagne party will resume at 12:30pm. The location will be communicated during visitation.

To The McSweeney family, my deepest condolences to you all. May you find comfort in all the wonderful memories you have. Mike and I met at Touro and oh, I struggled with computers. Mike made me feel like I was not as awful on them as I know I was. He would just make me laugh and leave me some notes on what to do. May he and Tom be enjoying some good Chsmpagne
