Michael Rapier Obituary

Michael Joseph Rapier passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the age of 84. He was the loving husband of Kathryn Eshleman Rapier for sixty years, devoted father of Michael Joseph Rapier, Jr., James Westfeldt Rapier (Marion), Jane Rapier Spence (Jason), the late Elizabeth Eshleman Rapier, and the late Anne Campbell Rapier. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Michael Joseph Rapier, III, Ana Marie Hale Rapier, Hudson Andrew Westfeldt Rapier, Campbell Rapier Spence, Parker Eshleman Spence, and Anne Kathryn Spence. He was the son of the late Edward Desforges Rapier and Ana Marie Alvarez Rapier and brother of the late Helen Rapier Baccich and the late Thomas Gwynne Rapier. He is survived by his sister Rose Marie Rapier Redmann (David) and numerous nieces and nephews. He graduated from De La Salle High School, Tulane University, and Rutgers University's Graduate School of Banking, and taught for many summers at LSU's Graduate School of Banking. He was active in numerous civic and charitable organizations. A private graveside service was held on December 10, 2020 and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Academy of the Sacred Heart – Ana Marie Scholarship Fund, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Woman's New Life Center, or a charity of your choice.

I lived across the street from the Rapiers my entire childhood growing up in the 70’s. I loved that family! Many great childhood memories. Mr. Mike was so kind to me!
Later in life when I bought The Rendon Inn he was the first banker that believed in me and helped me with my first loan in business. I will always remember his kindness console and business advice.
He was a wonderful man may he Rest In Peace his memory will be eternal.
My condolences to Ms. Rapier Mike and Jim and the entire family.
