Myrna Gemelli Obituary

Myrna Miriam Doubleday Gemelli passed away Wednesday, September 21st at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills, CA at 81 years of age. She was born January 1st, 1941 in Tela, Honduras and became a naturalized US citizen at the age of 4, when her parents moved the family from Honduras to New Orleans in 1945. She grew up in New Orleans on St. Charles Avenue in the Garden District, alum of Fortier High School, graduated Meadows Draughon Business School and was a long time employee of LSU Medical Center-Center of Urology and Orthopedics Departments. Like every other New Orleanian she loved her city and it's culture yet she still maintained her passion for her Honduran heritage. She loved to cook both New Orleans classics and Honduran staples, enjoyed music, swimming, gardening and travel. Most importantly she was a mother, mentor and friend of a wonderful daughter for whom she loved deeply. Later in life she would decide to move west to Los Angeles where her daughter was now living in order to be closer to her. Here in Los Angeles she started a new chapter making new friends and enjoying the west coast lifestyle. Her daughter wed and soon she was given the gift of a grandson whom she loved deeply and he affectionately called her "Lita." She has resided in Los Angeles for over the past 20 years and will be missed by many-both family and friends for her strength, honesty and sharp wit she was known for. She is survived by her daughter Belinda Anne Gemelli-Craven, son-in-law Paul Stephen Craven, grandson Louis Francis Craven, sister-in-law Bonnie Doubleday, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by her mother Gumersinda De Jesús Espinosa Doubleday, father Eugene Doubleday Sr., brothers Eugene Doubleday Jr., Gilbert Doubleday and Rolando Doubleday, husband Michael "Gerald" Gemelli. She will be interred at St. Louis Cemetery #3, St. Francis Garden Mausoleum in her hometown of New Orleans later this year.
