Nancy Weller Obituary

Nancy Louise Weller, 88, passed away on August 16, 2023 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She spent most of her adult life in New Orleans where she lived with her husband of 60 years, artist Dell Weller, until his death in 2017. She is survived by her three children Kurt Weller (Judy), Lisa Arnold (Van), Gretchen Howard (Peter), her four grandchildren, Caitlin Cheramie, Joshua Jordan (Alexis), Piper Howard and Sully Howard, as well as step grandchildren, Jenn Howard, Peter Howard Jr., Ashley Kent and Kacy Arnold. Nancy and Dell spent their early married life together in the French Quarter as part of the Jackson Square art community. She later joined the all female artist group, the Whimsies, and also worked at the Sunporch, an uptown plant shop. Undoubtedly, Nancy will be best remembered as a beloved local dressmaker, who in her 60 year career created beautiful dresses for weddings, debuts, graduations, Mardi Gras balls, and even a few hundred Newman School cheerleader uniforms. Nancy was an avid natural gardener, and her Christmas decorations were legendary. Her last years were spent at the Claiborne Independent Living Home where she shared her artistic spirit teaching weekly art classes to the residents, creating beauty in her life and for others. She will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved her good nature, can do spirit and wonderful style. A memorial celebration of her life will be held later this Fall.

Don and I have treasured the friendship we´ve shared with your mom and dad. We loved both of them and are so grateful that their art talent is still with us.
Your mom was such an inspiration and her spirit will always be with us.
Much love, Don and Edna Charles

I always had pleasant experiences with Nancy. I just knew she enjoyed her design work and wanted to make her clients happy and beautiful. She turned me on to an incredible button shop in NYC and I treasure the beautiful buttons I purchased there. Peace to you all.

Nancy was a wonderful designer. She made two gowns for my daughter and me for my daughter's debut. I fondly remember the powder room with the New Yorker covers wallpaper.
