Noel Vargas Obituary

Noel E. Vargas, Jr., age 66, entered into eternal rest Friday, October 26, 2018. He was born on October 17, 1952. He is survived by his wife, Marion Cahill Vargas; father, Noel E. Vargas, Sr.; brother, Eric S. Vargas (Beth); and nephews Matthews Vargas, Alexander Vargas and Noel E. Vargas, II. He is preceded in death by his sister, Claudette Marie Vargas; brother, Edward R. Vargas; and mother, Clotilde N. Vargas. Noel was a proud graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans; received his Bachelors of Art in History from the University of New Orleans; and his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University. Noel began his career in banking law with the Louisiana Office of Financial Institutions and then proceeded to litigation and insurance defense. He found his true calling, however, in the practice of adoption law where he established his private practice, devoting himself for over 20 years to supporting those in need of his services. He was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association (New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Jefferson); admitted to practice in the Louisiana Supreme Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts, the Louisiana Supreme Court for the 5th and 11th Districts; and the U.S. Court of Trade, US Supreme Court. Noel was a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys and was the recipient of the "Angel in Adoption Award" conferred by the Congressional Coalition. His greatest joy and achievement, though, came in knowing that his work made a definitive difference in forming the 800+ families that he touched with adoption placements. This was the way he chose to serve his community and to honor his profession. Noel will be remembered for his love of history, politics and sports. He often was a guest lecturer at Loyola, Tulane and LSU Law Schools and participated in teaching activity at Jesuit (practical law) and Baton Rouge College (paralegal studies). While in Baton Rouge he volunteered as a youth soccer coach. He has spent the years since taking joy in watching and learning about the successes of the many young people with whom he was involved. A godfather to many, a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, Noel will always be remembered by those that knew him for his kindness and generosity with his time. Noel lived the meaning of being a "man for others." Services will be held on Saturday November 3, 2018, at 3:30 PM, at his beloved Jesuit High School, Chapel of the North American Martyrs on Carrollton and Banks. Donations can be made to the ABBA fund offering adoption assistance for those in need (WWW.ABBA.ORG). Interment will be private. Arrangements by Jacob Schoen & Son. My husband and I learned of Noel's passing today and we were truly devastated. After many losses in our lives, Noel made our family complete when he facilitated the adoption of precious daughter, Evie Rose. You will always have a special place in our hearts as you made an impact on our lives forever! You were certainly an instrument on earth doing God's work and he wanted you back. Heaven has gained an angel.❤

Because of you, every day is brighter because you led us to our baby girl!

It saddens me to hear of Mr. Vargas passing. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Vargas prior to his departure from NODA. He also worked with me on a very personal legal matter and from there we established a caring and nurturing relationship. He had an endless heart of goal that I'm sure touched many. He will be missed.

Only once in a life time do we meet a soul as magnificent and as loving as was our friend Noel. It was former Congressman David Vitter and I who nominated Noel for the Angel in Adoption Award. So many other names were submitted for that award but none could compare, Noel's record stood high above the others. He had more than ability, Noel had a godly gift. He knew instinctively which baby and which set of parents belonged to each other. What an honor it was to know this unique soul. It is so hard to let him go but God must need Noel for a greater purpose. So good-bye for now dearest friend, your work on this earth will be remembered and appreciated for generations to come!

Our entire family is completely shaken to the core to hear of Mr. Vargas' death. We are (were) current clients of his, and just weeks away from the finalization of our step-parent adoption when we learned of his passing.

Mr. Vargas was one of the best parts of this process. From the very first time I reached out to him near the beginning of this year, he was so gentle, kind, warmhearted, and willing to answer any questions I had. Once we retained Mr. Vargas, he continued to show us how deeply he loved his work as an adoption attorney, and was certain to always tell us how much he loved uniting families. It was so exciting for us whenever we had an appointment to see him in his office because he was truly one of those rare people that are just amazing to be around. I am so saddened that he is not here to see our adoption through, I know he was so excited and ready for the finalization.

We send SO much love and many prayers to his family and close friends. We haven't known him as long as you have, but in the 9 months that we have known him, we feel as if we've lost a family member.

Noel E. was the epitome of a gentleman. He was indeed a gentle man. I was honored to know him. We remained in touch through the years and his last communication was to thank me for wishing him a happy birthday. I am so glad we had a chance to be in each others thoughts before his passing. He will be missed. My deepest condolences, Mike Stewart

Marion, I loved Noel. He was the Commander of the ROTC drill team at Jesuit, and I was fortunate enough to know him and benefit from his strength and leadership and growth as a fellow Jesuit student. Noel was a real real good man. I was lucky to know him. He was always kind to me and to folks. We are all missing a wonderful soul. I am so sorry I will miss Noel's funeral service. Prayers for you and for Noel's family.

We are one of the 800+ families he touched through adoption. He and his staff calmly walked us through a complicated process with so many moving parts. I think he would have been proud of the young man our son is today and that we maintain a relationship with his birthmom and her family. Rest In Peace, Noel.

A Jesuit classmate whom I regarded highly, Noel has passed from this life far too soon. He had a legal career that was of consequence to so many families, for whom he was indeed a "man for others." God rest you, Noel. Requiescat in pace!

While never really having met this kind soul I had the privilege to witness first hand the joy he was able to provide SO many families. He truly was an Angel here on Earth and now has received his heavenly reward. Thank you to his family for sharing him with so many. May their love for Him surround you now as you mourn and lift you up to remember the joy He blessed them with. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

We will never be able to fully express the degree of gratitude we feel toward Noel Vargas! We are among the 800+ whom he worked very hard for us and the birth parents. He went the extra mile to make our open adoption work as smoothly as possible. Noel will be missed by so many. You may be gone, but never forgotten! Thank you, Sir, for everything you did for all of us! RIP Noel

I am one of the children that Noel helped to adopt out to a family. Without him I wouldn't be where I am or who I am today. I wouldn't have the oppurtunities that I do now, because of him. He was an amazing man and remembered me when I called him on my 18th birthday even though he hadn't seen me since I was born. He was truly an angel. Rest In Peace.

Noel was not only a caring person, he genuinely put his heart in his work to help those wanting to adopt a baby. He saved so many children through his work. Although my daughter's case did not end well, it was not because Noel didn't do everything he could to place a baby with her. Thank you gentle soul for all your diligence. The Petit family
