Octave Schully Obituary

SCHULLY Octave Foerster (Forey) Schully, III, an attorney, passed away after a couragous battle with cancer on Friday, June 18th, 2010, at the age of 57, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. Forey was born in New Orleans on March 3, 1953 and lived there for 52 years, before moving to Orinda, California after Hurricane Katrina. In 1974 he graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University of New Orleans, and earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola University School of Law in 1977. Following his early years of law practice, Forey was part of the group of lawyers who joined Gordon, Arata & McCollam to create Gordon, Arata, McCollam & Stuart. His expertise in representing financial institutions and handling a broad range of commercial transactions was then sought by Dotson, Babcock & Scofield, of Houston, Texas, as they opened their New Orleans office. In 1991, Forey and others of that New Orleans office founded the Schully & Roberts law firm. Forey was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, the Louisiana Bankers Association, the Texas Bankers Association and several social organizations. He is survived by Patricia Shields Reinker of Orinda, California, a daughter, Margaret Murphy Schully of New York, N.Y., a son, Octave Foerster Schully, IV, a grandson, Britton Thomas Schully and Britton's mother, Rachel Rohr, all of St. Louis, Missouri. Forey is also survived by his mother, Charlotte Maumus Schully Coe of New Orleans, and four siblings, Judith Schully Doussan of Metairie, Barry Charles Schully of New Orleans, Mary Anne Schully Voelkel of Covington and Christopher Paul Schully of Port Jefferson, New York. Additionally, he is survived by a sister-in-law, Ellen Faust Schully, two brothers-in-law, Jeffery Rene Doussan and Matthew Christian Voelkel, and fifteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Octave Foerster Schully, Jr., a sister, Susan Mary Schully, and his grandparents, Lucille LeBouef Schully and Octave Foerster Schully and Ruth Bickham Maumus and Charles Hackney Maumus. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 12:00 noon. Charlotte and family, I was so sorry to read about Forey's death on e-mail. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this difficult time. Living in Wichita makes it impossible to be with you for the wake and funeral. Be assured of my continued prayers for each of you. With love and sympathy, Sister William Matthews, CSJ
