Paul Legrand Obituary

Paul Marie Legrand, Sr, age 97, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of September 14, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Georges and Hélène LaFargue Legrand, brothers, Edmond and Maurice Legrand, and sisters, Marie Louise Perret, Marguerite Mims, and Simone Harrison, and grandson Nicholas Johnson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marie Laure Cloutier Legrand, children Paul (Kathy), Elise, Georges (Andrea), Jacques (Lisa), Yvonne (Daniel Hrapmann), Jeanne (Kenneth Johnson), Pierre (Michele), Michel (fiancée Windy Garrity), and Christian (Rene) Legrand, grandchildren Jeffrey Legrand, Brant and Mark (Katherine) Hocke, Rolande Rivera, Andrew, Anne, Julia, Philip, Jacques Philippe (Emily), and André (Jamie) Legrand, Rebecca (Andrew) Velez, Daniel Jr (Kyndal) and Lisette Hrapmann, Luc, Marielle and Christopher Johnson, Walker, Ethan, Justin, Katherine, Caroline, Tyler and Avery Legrand, and great-grandchildren Maverick James, Ella Christine, and Spencer William Hrapmann, Blaine William, Ann Reilly, and Blakely Ann Legrand, Amelie Grace Velez, and Palmer Mackenzie Hocke. He is also survived by his sister, Jacqueline Legrand and brother, Jean Legrand, and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. A graduate of St. Aloysius High School (Class of 1937), he also attended Soule' Business College. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the United States Coast Guard aboard the Patrol Frigate, USS Eugene (PF-40). He was a Parishioner for over 50 years of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in New Orleans, LA. He served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister, and was active in their Men's Club, Holy Name Society, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Paul was devoted to our Blessed Mother, Mary, and prayed to Her daily. Paul was fluent in French and Spanish and greatly enjoyed being able to converse with others who were, up until his last day. He was the embodiment of the French phrase, "joie de vivre", which he received from his mother, Mere. We are grateful to the staff of Our Lady of Wisdom, who provided him with wonderful care. Many of the staff have shared their stories of him and their fondness for him. Every time we left his company, he told us, "Vaya con Dios" (Go with God)! Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday September 25 11:30 A.M. at Our Lady of the Rosary, Rev. Msgr. Robert Massett, Celebrant. Interment to follow in St. Louis #3 Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. until Mass time at Our Lady of the Rosary. ARRANGEMENTS BY JACOB SCHOEN & SON FUNERAL HOME. Condolences may be left at www.schoenfh.com. In lieu of flowers, kindly send donations to Archdiocese of New Orleans Catholic Charities.

I enjoyed meeting Mr. Legrand many decades ago. He so entertainingly discussed Holy Rosary Parish and his family's relationship with my late Grand Uncle, Bishop L. Abel Caillouet, former longtime pastor.

May Mr. Legrand's immortal soul rest in eternal peace.
