Perry Gatlin

1962 - 2023

Perry Gatlin went home to the Lord on March 24, 2023; he was born on December 17, 1962, to the late Christeen Carey and was raised by her, and the father that loved him-the late David Carey. Perry, affectionally known as "Weirdo", grew up in "The Cutoff", Algiers, New Orleans, Louisiana. Everyone on Kent Street was his family. The neighborhood collectively looked out for him. Perry had a PhD in Street Knowledge. He lived his life to the fullest. He was gifted beyond measure and could do anything to a high degree of excellence. He was an artist; he loved nature, music, and food. Perry loved his family–he would always say, "I have the best family in the world". He will be missed beyond measure. He leaves to cherish his memory, his only child-Perry (Ines) Reed, who was the love of his life; grandchildren-Tristen, Aaliyah, Xavier, Sade, and Savannah; godchild-Sharron Kidd; sisters-Joyce (Nathaniel) Butler, Jannie Veal, Schwann (Christopher) Runnels, and Rene (Wilbert Jr.) Lewis; brothers-David (Lletha) Gatlin and Martin (Latrice) Carey; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sister-Shirley Gatlin; and brothers-in-law-Norman Hamp and Eric Veal, Sr. Family and friends are invited to the Homegoing Celebration on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Murray Henderson Funeral Home, 1209 Teche Street, New Orleans, LA 70114, at 11:00 AM. Pastor David Gatlin will officiate. The Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Professional arrangements are entrusted to Murray Henderson Funeral Home.
