Peter Badie Jr.

1925 - 2023

WWII Veteran and Legendary Bassist, Mr. Peter Badie, Jr., departed his earthly journey on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Peter, affectionately known as, "Chuck", "Number 9" and "Shirt" was born May 17, 1925 in New Orleans, LA to the late Peter, Sr. and Myrtle Miller Badie. He received his early education in the Orleans Parish School System. Mr. Badie proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Following his tour of duty, he enrolled in Grunewald School of Music and embarked upon an illustrious career in music that spanned seven decades, performing with such locals as Roy Brown, Paul Gayten and Dave Bartholomew, as well as international artists such as Sam Cooke and Lionel Hampton. During the last decades of his career, he could be seen performing at the Palm Court Jazz Café and Jazzfest, as well as other local venues. In addition to his parents, Mr. Badie is also preceded in death by his wife, Odile Jackson Badie; son, Peter Badie, III; daughter, Celeste Landry; grandson, Michael Landry; great-great granddaughter, Ny'Rielle Alexander; siblings, Arthur Johnson, Althea McDuffey, Adelaide Bell, Aaron and David Badie, Sr., Celeste and Veronica Harris, Augustine Chavous. Survivors include a son, Emanuel Badie (Ronda); nine grandchildren, Laura, Lawrence (Terris), Bertel, III (Denise) and Shawn (Dria) Landry, Sr., Peter IV, Emond and Rana Badie, Latoya Williams (Carleton) and Monica Lane (Gerald); twenty-two great grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Marcella Badie; devoted niece, Zina Harris Dorsey (Freddie), as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Relatives and friends, Priest and Parishioners of St. David and St. Augustine Catholic Churches, Officers and members of The American Federation of Musicians Local 174-496, Musician Family and Knights of Peter Claver #125, are invited to attend the funeral. A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life and legacy of the late Mr. Peter Badie, Jr., will be held at St. David Catholic Church, 5617 St. Claude Avenue, New Orleans, LA on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10 am, Rev. Oswald P. Pierre-Jules, Jr., SSJ, V. F., Celebrant. Interment Green Street/Carrollton Cemetery. Visitation 9 am in the church. Due to COVID variants, face masks and social distancing encouraged.
