Philip DeLony Obituary

Philip DeLony was born in New Orleans on February 7, 1949, and passed away September 3, 2024, at the age of 75 years. He is predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Ermagene Dethlefsen DeLony and a brother, Steven DeLony. He is survived by his brothers, Kevin and Bradley (Debra) and his nephew, Garrett. His passing is so sad. I´ll always remember Phil introducing we LU dorm dwellers to the Verbena Street Bakery he called « Mama Glaze ». Phil had his own charmîng lingo. A group of us went there once in the middle of the night when the dôughnuts were made

New Orleans is a little less quirky with Philip´s departure. We grew up together in Castle Manor in the 1950s/early `60s, playing every game we could get our hands on or make up. I´m pretty sure it was Philip who taught me chess. He was wickedly smart, and he set a standard for academic achievement that I admired but never quite reached. We both attended Jesuit and Loyola, but I lost track of him thereafter (I having moved out of state) until our 50th Jesuit reunion in 2016. We had a nice conversation, but much too short for all the catching up we had to do. I had hoped to see him at our 60th in a couple of years, but.... RIP, Philip. You touched a lot of people.

Prayers and peace to the family! I enjoyed seeing Philip at many musical concerts over the years and discussing the artists and the music. He was a gentle soul with a warm smile! My condolences.
