Philip Velasquez Obituary

Philip passed away peacefully on the morning of December 28, 2017, at the age of 76. Philip was born on November 30, 1941 in New Orleans to Jose Maria and Antonia Paltron Velazquez. He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Michael and Steven; their mother Gwen Stevenson; two grandchildren, Sydney and Leonardo; and one great grandson Owen Raspberry; and, many devoted friends especially Cliff Washington, Robert Sparks, and Al and Joan Scott. Brother of Jose Del Carmen (Eloise), Thomas (Linda), and Raphael (Grace); and, the late Jose Maria, Lawrence (Loria), and Anna. Philip was very close to his family and to his friends. As a child and young boy, Philip and his brothers served daily Mass at the Convent of the Sisters of The Holy Family in the French Quarter. He graduated from Holy Redeemer elementary school and St. Augustine High School. After high school, Philip joined the United States Air Force and worked as a Load Master during the Vietnam era. In 1971, upon graduation from UC Davis, Phil was hired as an Analyst by the California State Personnel Board. He worked in public service positions until retirement. Philip ran the race and finished well! May our Lord and Almighty God bless him and welcome him home. The family will have a private graveside service and internment.
